I've been reading Infinite Jest for about a month now. Well, I guess I started reading it about a month ago. I'm on page 107 and have no motivation whatsoever to keep going. I remember someone telling me that it really picks up around 250, but that is so many pages to read before I'm interested.
Here's my top 10, for what it's worth.
1. Bon Iver - Bon Iver
2. Destroyer - Kaputt
3. Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues
4. Jame Blake - James Blake
5. Kurt Vile - Smoke Ring For My Halo
6. The Mountain Goats - All Eternals Deck
7. Okkervil River - I am Very Far
8. TuNe-YaRdS - w h o k i l l
9. Yuck - Yuck
10. Cults - Cults
I don't know. I had no idea that Julian wasn't around for the recording until after I heard the album, and I still got the feeling that they were very disconnected.
I think we will get more music, just not as soon as everyone is saying. Similar to In Rainbows, I think that they will release something else when the vinyl ships.
Really great writeup. I do agree that at times the lyrics can come off as a bit pretentious, but for the most part I think Arcade Fire are really genuine. For me, the album isn't as great as Funeral, but better than Neon Bible. I disagree when you say that the album feels vacant, but again, agree to disagree.
All in all I do feel that the album was over-hyped but is still been pretty great. Keep up the good work with these double takes.
I do realize this. Even so it doesn't make "Who, who the fuck got your pussy all re-upholstered?
(Yeezy re-upholstered my pussy) " any more enjoyable to listen to, but hey, that's just my opinion.
The misoogyny was the main reason I didn't think MBDTF was worth a 10.0 - The whole Chris Rock part was unlistenable and I know I wasn't the only one who felt this way. Still love his music though.
