Why no stereogum love for Sam Smith's new track "Safe With Me"? A lot of love here for AlunaGeorge but for my money Sam Smith had the best track on Settle with "Latch"
Still not big on the song---little too easy breezy for what is a lead single for a new album. And he's getting closer to aping MJ than channeling him.
They should've just had Fallon and Black Thought do it from the get go
Just to be sure this was from Elizabeth Fey of Foxygen and not Elizabeth Stamatina Fey aka Tina Fey, correct?
I say we have a revote. "Get Lucky" was the song of the spring. "Blurred Lines" is the song of the summer
Well then I'll step back and say they should have released Tunnel Vision since it's the better of the two songs and the best track off the album. And I really wouldn't cite Twitter as a good barometer of what's good. If that were the case then Sharknado would be the greatest movie ever
Gotta question the release of this seeing as how they just put out Tunnel Vision
Have you ever considered that they just like the music? As palatable as Deafheaven is, as far as black metal goes, it's still pretty hard to digest for even the more acclimated listener. I just have a hard time believing there are people out there committing to like something basically because it's the "in" thing to do. Granted I have no experience with the indie scene as I live in my own indie bubble.
Your MJ on the Wiz (whoa, I just realized both MJs were on/in The Wiz) is pretty spot on. This album is far from bad or horrible but it's also far from great. Both instances have guys that basically achieved anything and everything yet are staying on just to stay on. They both still have ample skill and aren't making a fool of themselves yet are shadows of their former greatness.
If you have any Samsung stock I'd sell now. The marketing for Magna Carta Holy Grail makes no sense on Samsung's side. What are they getting out this deal? The ability to say they were somewhat involved with a potentially good album? What happens if it tanks? It'll no doubt knock them back behind Apple in the smartphone wars.
I really don't think Pharrell pulls that much weight at least as far as a guest singer goes. I think a big part of "Get Lucky" and RAM's popularity can be attributed to it just being out there, everywhere, due to the extra level of marketing provided by a major label.
I was always under the impression that "Around the World" was the de facto Daft Punk song.
Come on, it'll still debut at #1. A) there's nothing else coming out and B) plenty of people don't have a Samsung phone or tablet. The RIAA continue to show their ineptitude. So if an artist sells his/her album to a company who then gives it away for free it counts but if an artist sells their album through Amazon or iTunes for $1 it doesn't count towards certification?
"Jay’s record is a more traditional hip-hop record." Translation: This album stinks
Anyone know what Paul Schaffer's band was playing there in the beginning?
Like anyone takes those things seriously. But if I had to make a list I think I personally would slot it at #2 behind MBDTF. At first I thought it was slightly behind College Dropout and Late Registration but it's definitely opening up with even more listens
If they can make an exception for Celebration Rock last year I think they can do the same for Yeezus.
I'd argue Radiohead is a better example of The Beatles of our generation. But then you could argue Kanye is the Radiohead of hip-hop.
Hov has been off his game lately. Not sure if trying to be more of a businessman is gonna make him rap any better.
I was really hoping this album was the way he was gonna let Kim K know they were breaking up.
