We don’t often see artists like Jaymes Young, whose earnest voice, startlingly raw lyrics, and cinematic production style make him an instantaneous attention-getter. Now his gorgeous sadcore single “I’ll Be Good” has an equally heart-wrenching video. The slow-panning clip shows Young and model Nikia Phoenix in a hospital as they recover from some pretty serious physical and emotional injuries. It’s a scorching, introspective clip, with muted colors and surreal shots of fish swimming in IV bags. Read Young’s statement and watch the video below:
“The video represents the harm we do,” Young said. “We harm ourselves when we harm others. It also reflects the re-birth of a forgiven conscience.”
Young’s Habits Of My Heart EP is out now via Atlantic.
