In this week’s Petting Zoo, we have a lot of video of animals just kind of doing their thing. Playing with a toy, freaking out on a bed, looking out a window, etc. They’re all good videos, no duh, and some are much better than others, but they make me wonder: Why did someone take these videos? He or she thinks that his or her animal doing whatever normal thing animals do is better than any other animal doing a normal thing that an animal does? He or she thinks that his or her video is worth watching, even the the majority of people have seen or see frequently a similar thing in real life? SOMETIMES THE ANSWER IS YES! More often than that, though, the answer is no. I see a LOT of boring animal vids putting together this list every week, if you can believe it. But I guess you never know what the answer is going to be until you take the video of your dog running around the yard, upload it to YouTube, and let the viewers decide. Is that enough talking? This Guinea Pig gets number one for two reasons: One, it has been raining almost nonstop for about two weeks in New York City and I am so sick of it and I know this little guy feels my pain. And two, the hat it’s wearing. CONGRATULATIONS, LITTLE GUY! (But I do wish the person behind the camera chose one angle and stuck to it.) (A little constructive criticism.) The tortoise helping his flipped-over friend along with the seal looking at the baby are refreshing reminders that people (animals) do care (seem like they care). Rounding out our top five — the seal and the baby and puppy — are just cute as shit. CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WINNERS! (US!)
