Hey, What’s Up With Topher Grace?

Last night, in Brooklyn, New York, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists had a record release party for their new album, The Brutalist Bricks. First, the band just crushed through the whole album, front to back. Then they took a short break and a young comedian named Max Silvestri that I’ve been hearing a ton of great things about and who probably has a bright future ahead of him (but who ever knows) did a short set of jokes. BUT THEN, Ted Leo and the rest of the band came back on stage and they invited people from the audience up to do live band karaoke. Holy cow! Maybe you guys are salty old pros when it comes to live band karaoke, but this was the first time I have seen such a thing, and it was a TREAT. There is just so much energy, and everyone who goes on stage really sells it because they have a back up band (in this case a particularly great back up band) driving them forward. Each song just feels like a special moment in someone’s life. Each song is a wonderful memory. What a great time for everyone involved. No offense to Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, but you guys should DEFINITELY consider just doing this full-time.

Of course, for some people in this world, every day is live band karaoke: a shining moment in the spotlight, all eyes on you, and nothing to lose. Just let go! Have fun! You only live once, and people like to see other people happy! One of those special lucky winners is Topher Grace. What is up with him?

Well, it was Oscar week this week, and you know what that means, OSCAR PARTIES! Very cool. Topher Grace, of course, was on hand for at least a couple of them. If nothing else, it’s kind of just part of the business. You have to socialize and network if you want to stay relevant and desirable in this fickle industry. But I like to think Topher has fun while he’s doing it. Oh, here he is:

Worried about my own social columnizing amnesia, I took a moment to write down all the attending names. Among the many fantasists, quixotics, and super-troopers seen in the room (in no particular order): Jane Fonda, Clive Owen, Natalie Portman, Kelly Osbourne, Matt Dillon, Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Hartnett, Topher Grace, Juliette Lewis, Ryan Phillippe, James Blunt, Kat Dennings, Peter Saarsgard, Matthew Rhys, Harvey Weinstein, Piers Morgan, Ed Norton and, oh, Rachel Zoe (there mentally dressing everybody in the room).

That is from some dude’s account of his trip to an Oscar party at the Soho House for the National Post. It’s got a ton more cool names of famous people in it, so if you love reading long lists of famous people that some dude you’ve never heard of saw one time, you should definitely check it out.

And here is Grace at another Oscars party, as reported by the LA Times:

Maggie Gyllenhaal chatted on the balcony with Topher Grace, while a newly single Ryan Phillippe bobbed and weaved through a crowd that also included Joaquin Phoenix, James Cameron, Emile Hirsch, Ben Silverman, Rosanna Arquette, Matt Dillon and Guy Oseary.

Oh wait, actually that is the same Oscar party. But it is neat to find out that he talked to Maggie Gyllenhaal on a balcony! In any case, here is another sighting of Topher at a different Oscar party, fromJustJared:

Kate [Bosworth] was at the party with True Blood stud Alexander Skarsgard. During the evening’s last call, they were seen drinking beer with Topher Grace.

Hmm. No. That was ALSO from the same party at the Soho House. Well, in any case, I’m sure he got invited to lots of other Oscar parties but, like, the super secret lowkey kind that only people like Shaq get invited to. NO PRESS ALLOWED. You know how it is. Like the party that Hollywood SUPERAGENT Ari Emanuel held in his backyard:

At Emanuel’s Brentwood home, old pals (and Oscar winners) Affleck and Damon talked shop while their wives, Garner and Luciana Barroso, chatted up a storm.

The A-listers convened under a large tent in the back of the property, where sushi and cocktails were passed. Tyra Banks posed while Ben’s brother Casey Affleck waved to Topher Grace, who was deep in conversation with Kate Bosworth.

That is what I’m talking about! Mixing it up! Topher Grace and Kate Bosworth must be really good friends. I wonder what they talk about?! None of my business, I know, but I can think about it! (I bet they talk about snacks.)

Of course, life itself is a celebration, and you don’t need to wait for something as overwrought as the Oscars to get out there and have a good time, which is why Topher Grace was spotted with Ann Kendrick last Thursday at something called the “Elysium’s “Pieces Of Heaven” presented by Vanity Fair and BMW held at Palihouse Holloway” event. Sounds fun! From JustJaredJr (a popular gossip blog for CHILDREN):

Haha, careful guys, I hope Kate Bosworth doesn’t get jealous! Just kidding. They’re just friends, you guys. And even if they weren’t, this is between them.

Meanwhile, BuzzFoto posted a blind item this week along with a photo of our pal, Topher Grace.

Before we get to this Blind, we have to say this- we like this guy, we really do, so it was hard for us to hear of him behaving so badly last year. This actor was in a hit network show, that is now off the air. The man has been doing a little work here and there, but has mostly stayed off of everyone’s radar. That is mostly because we hear he’s developed a new way to spend all of his money and his time. He’s developed an obsession with soliciting sex any way he can. He pays for it, in one form or another almost every day and goes looking for it in places that range from the internet to the alleyway.

Not Topher Grace.

Well, I have no idea who that is. But it’s not Topher. For one thing, he is on people’s radar, duh. And it also just doesn’t sound like him. He is too wholesome for this, as his media image has taught me to believe over the many years. It seems rude to drag his name into this when it’s not even him, as BuzzFoto themselves admit. I don’t know. I guess I would have just expected more from a blind gossip item on a site called BuzzFoto, but what are you going to do?

Oh, and here’s a fun one: Actor Walter Goggins (Walter Whoggins? Just kidding, Walter, you’re great!) shares a pretty funny story with Movieweb from behind the scenes of the upcoming action adventure movie, Predators:

The former star of The Shield was more than happy to tell us all about the upcoming franchise reboot and told us a funny story about returning home after his intense film shoot. “You know its interesting, I ran into Topher Grace at a party after getting back (from shooting the film) and it was like … we had the biggest hug because we both looked at each other and said, ‘You made it off the planet? Oh my God, you’re here?’ It was like going through a war, absolutely everybody kind of meeting their demise in their own way,” explained Goggins. “It was exciting to see that these people exist in a world outside of Predators.”

HAHAHHAHA. GOOD STORY! I bet it is a lot like going through a war to be in a movie like that. Unfortunately, there is no way for us to know, since we are not currently enmeshed in two very real foreign wars that do not even have any catering or on-set masseuses or anything. We will just have to assume that shooting Predators was exactly like going through a war. I bet!

And, of course, That ’70s Show remains popular in syndication.

There you go. That is what is up with Topher Grace. Send your Topher tips to [email protected]. See you next time!
