After breaking up Girls in 2012 and a few years of solo experimentation, Christopher Owens is on the upswing with his new band, Curls. Their debut EP, Vante showcases the group’s classic rock energy. The four-song set consists of two straightforward indie-rock tracks and two jangly instrumentals. Owens’ eclectic understanding of rock is apparent throughout the record, weaving together roots, progressive rock, indie-pop, and more into combinations like the garage-rock lead single “Emotion” and the McCartney-esque “Gentle And Kind.” Lo-fi production and easy melodies unify these styles to form a cozy and cohesive EP.
