Earlier this year, Manchester-based quartet Westside Cowboy -- Reuben Haycocks, James (Jimmy) Bradbury, Aoife Anson O’Connell, Paddy Murphy -- released their brilliant debut EP This Better Be Something Great. It was something great, and it's a relief to know that they're not slowing down anytime soon. Today, they've announced the follow-up EP So Much Country ‘Till We Get There with the new single "Don't Throw Rocks."
"Don't Throw Rocks" builds momentum with a reckless abandon. Anxious drumstick hits conjure the anticipatory anxiety of a marathon that's about to take place and a sharp electric guitar rings out like a brassy battle cry. It sounds like we're standing at the edge of a welcome unknown.
In a press release, the band shared:
Jimmy’s lyrics on this deal a lot in time and change, and how it, more often than not, moves out of our control and without niceties. We wanted the music to reflect this too. With each section, we wanted to add a new gear, to increase the intensity until it couldn’t be held onto anymore. I guess that’s where the outro comes in. This felt like the natural first single for the EP, we all kinda knew once we’d heard it back.
