Ted Leo, “Lazy Sunday” Return To Late Night
Fallon’s on a roll with musical guests and reunions. Last week he had Joanna Newsom and Silversun Pickups alongside a reunion for the cast of “California Dreams.” He kicked off this week with Ted Leo doing “The Mighty Sparrow,” and Chris Parnell and Andy Samberg for a live “Lazy Sunday” performance. Leo’s on a promo roll himself — last week he appeared on WFMU’s “The Best Show” to help with their donation marathon, and to do an appalling cover of Starship’s “We Built This City.” Leo was the second of two musical performances last night — The Roots provided a medley of hip-hop classics for the Samberg and Parnell’s revisited meme, including Run DMC’s “Christmas In Hollis” (too soon). Check the brief cameos by Lonely Island cohorts Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone:

And then there’s this. Leo covered “We Built This City” alongside “The Best Show” character Bryce (hear smoking weed during the song). Bryce is played by show co-host and Superchunk drummer Jon Wurster. “We Built This City” is arguably the worst song ever, and unarguably the saddest end to the Jefferson Airplane franchise. Enjoy:
The Brutalist Bricks is out today on Matador. Tonight’s “Best Show” marathon will feature guests Patton Oswalt and John Hodgman.
