Violens – “Acid Reign” (Stereogum Premiere)

“Acid Reign” is the first single from Violens’s upcoming debut album Amoral. I had to check on the debut part, since we’ve been talking about Violens for a while — they opened for Deerhunter at the Gummy Awards in 2008, around the time they released their self-titled EP. Their Winter Mixtape (a summer one is on its way) showed off their diverse influences, and you’ll hear a lot of them here too. The traces of shoegaze and Britpop are easy to spot, but the way “Acid Reign” pauses for the piano melody is another distinctive, prog-like touch to this layered single. Fight the heatwave:
