Brooklyn “drum n’ drone” trio Dinowalrus has been busy recording new material with Matt Walsh of the Forms. Outside that, co-vocalist/guitarist Pete Feigenbaum (who also plays guitar for Titus Andronicus) has been working on what he calls a “synthwave” project with drummer Angus Tarnawsky of Apache Beat and Bachelor Of Arts. So far they’ve done their recording at Angus’s place in Greenpoint. I’ve only heard two songs, but there’s an exploratory restlessness and deep spaciousness that links the material to Dinowalrus (and, in turn, Excepter). As far as the swirling, pitchshifting “Marblehead,” Pete thinks it’s “wedged somewhere between Gary Numan and Telepathe stylistically, with a dash of dubstep…” Amid the futuristic washes, I also get some harmonies that remind me of a more outer-realms TV On The Radio (aka Ghosts Of Brooklyn Past).
