The Depreciation Guild – “My Chariot” Video (Stereogum Premiere)

Brooklyn twee shoegaze trio, the Pains Of Being Pure At Heart spin-off, and Internet Warriors the Depreciation Guild don’t appear in the Maura Milan-directed video for “My Chariot.” Instead, two Japanese school girls act as protagonists for the Spirit Youth track. The clip was shot on location in Tokyo.

Spirit Youth is out via Kanine. The band recently released an iPhone/iPod Touch game called TileWild featuring three new tracks and 8-bit sound design by Depreciation Guild co-founder Kurt Feldman. He created the game with his old ’90s classmate Hayden Cacace. The story:

TileWild is the first game in a series of casual iPhone/iPod Touch games by Kurt Feldman and Hayden Cacace. It has been submitted under the guise of the band’s own moniker; The Depreciation Guild, Inc. making this [one of] the App Store’s first band-cum-game-company release. Inspired by the geometric pastiche of indie game designers Cactus, Mark Messhof and Kenta Cho, and the addictive ingredients of frantic classics like Tetris and Squares 2, TileWild is a completely original, retro-futuristic action puzzle game that is stylishly chaotic and boundless in its strategy and approach.

Tilewild is an action/puzzle game loosely based on the concept of additive and subtractive color mixing. Players combine tiles of one color with their counterpoints to fade them into the background and are awarded points for doing so. By purposely offsetting color amounts and creating bigger stacks of tiles, more points are awarded…But be quick or be dead. What seems like a simple concept on the surface, quickly becomes a frenzied task of dexterity.

TileWild features 4 original power-ups and a detailed chaining system, both which must be employed in order to secure a spot at the top of the online leaderboards. For continued efforts and exceptional skill, players are awarded unlockable surprises. The visual style of the game is also individually determined by way of customizable color schemes, making for a unique gaming experience. TileWild also features two different modes of gameplay, all at a smooth 60 fps.

You’ll find a “gameplay” video at YouTube and more info at the band’s site. TileWild can be purchased at iTunes. Or you can ask the guys about it on their tour:
