Texas musician Spencer Stephenson (who also played drums for Sleep Whale) makes lush instrumentals under the name Botany. I’m a fan of all the tracks on Botany’s debut EP, Feeling Today, but “Agave” was the first to catch my attention. I love the way the elements here (music box tinkles, ghostly samples, rhythmic detritus) combine into something hypnotic and balmy. All the pieces cling to each other blissfully (not unlike that collage album cover, above). Listen:
