Sessions At Santa’s With I.U.D. Was A Good Time

Our new weekly series with Spencer Sweeney at Santos Party House got off to a good start last night, thanks to those who made it. The party’s held in Santos’ underground space, which is pretty fitting: The vibe wasn’t your normal downtown art party, or at least not a normal downtown art party during this decade. It was weird, fun, and cheap ($10 door, $5 with RSVP). Last night was curated and anchored by Lizzi from Gang Gang and her partner in I.U.D. Sadie Laska. You walked into the room and through a labyrinth of slatted and draped garbage bags to a recessed performance space and raised DJ booth. There were films of toads on the walls by Alex Bag (he gets his shit in the Whitney so, you know, arty), and the time that wasn’t filled by DJ Matt Manderson of the Neon Kobra Krew’s intensity brought a noisy, clattering, rad set from I.U.D. Can’t promise that any of that will happen again — each week’s personality is left to our carousel of curators — but we’re pretty confident it’ll always be as odd and engaging. Coming weeks promise Thurston Moore, Gibby Haynes, Hisham Bharoocha, Matt Sweeney, Daniel Higgs of Lungfish, and etc. You should come sometime. Here’s a flyer to get you through March:
