Aaaand the early AOTY contenders are comin in reaaaaall hot
Not a pain at all. These are important clarifications that could’ve been solved with a quick Google search. Indeed they use they/them pronouns. https://i-d.vice.com/en_us/article/ywxy4g/girlpool-new-frontboy-cleo-tucker
Goddamn, after just one day with this album and I’m absolooootely obsoooooooosed. It’s such a wonderful album ❤️❤️❤️
Totally agree. Listening to Tell Them or Mile High feels like I’m listening to a good song on a Moses Sumney or Travis Scott album.
Apart from his debut, I do think this is probably the most enjoyable and immediate album I’ve heard from him
I think the makings of a masterpiece are here. As much as I love Mile High and Tell Them, I can’t help but feel they distract from a more cohesive, powerfully emotional album. Damn though, some of his most shattering songs are here: Assume Form, Into the Red (!!!!), and Can’t Believe the Way We Flow.
“Globe-trotting indie-pop” 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽 you’ve done it again tom
AMBER MARK, KALI UCHIS, ROSALIA, KINGS DEAD, BASSACKWARDS- stupid oversight on my part, but thanks for reminder
Pristine SOTY just sayin
Ugh Utopia is perfect. Vulnicura/Utopia back to back is one of my fav companion album runs. Funny story...I ILLEGALLY downloaded Utopia b4 it came out and the tracklist was inverted soooo I'm all fucked and still to this day think Future Forever is track one :(

Yes! The Internet. Loved that album when it came out, but also completely forgot about its existence come AOTY time.
Not having Historian was a major oversight, but otherwise I thought the list was pretty wonderful. Lots of personal favorites that weren’t represented on the Gum’s list. AAL, Deafheaven, Sheck Wes, Tierra Whack (top 10 no less!!!) + others. That said, p4k’s list might reflect more of my favs from the year, but in characteristic Gum fashion, I’ll be referring to the Gum list way more often to discover new albums for months to come.
Damn Chris, how did “County Line” not make you an instant fan? That song kills me to this day.
Also are you FKA Antigone?
“Tenderness” is my jam on an album full of em
Of course now I’m seeing all the albums that were excluded this year. AAL?! DEAFHEAVEN? Tim Hecker?! Parquet Courts!? WTFFFFF
Great list, y’all. Some thoughts...surprised by Noname ranked so low, pleased by Adrianne Lenker and Spiritualized ranked so high, and absolutely agree with Kacey Musgraves at #1. Where’s Amen Dunes tho
Lol baffled by the creepy adult dude whose comment on a young female pop star’s video starts with “cute” 👌🏽
Yeah this song is great. Relax technosaul
100%. This album has been on repeat for the past two months. It's just wonderful.
GMF is real. Talk to your providers about how you can treat your GMF today.
Can proudly say Vince got me with Hell Can Wait, notably "Blue Suede." Played it at like 20 parties that year.
RJ always comin' in droppin' good points. It's exactly like "06." I was thinking the same thing about the painfully short Earl song....something *that* good cannot exist in just 23 seconds. I'll patiently wait for the full version...
Ugh such a compulsive listen. 23 seconds of Earl is cruel though...that verse is great. Also love how the concept of musicians releasing like 9 albums a year is par for the course in a post-Kanye universe.
Wow I had literally this same thought on first listen! “Deadbody” got me wayyy too hyped for a similar sounding album. No complaints tho, love it all
Same! Love him as well, just really struggled with this one
All the love to you and your community < 3
For sure! My sister and her family live in Sonoma County so I’m around often. Too bad, I was there for years always dreaming of Sgum meet ups!! On that note, who’s all going to the Xmas show!? Other than me :)))))))))))
Truly one of my fav Sgum stories this year. What a pleasant surprise
Agree. That's part of the reason I left SF. Oakland's wonderful! Hoping to move back in a few years.
Just went back to the article. Didn't realize LME was denying the claim. LOL it was verbatim what Wayne said...amazing how people* can do that *our president
Exit West is a masterpiece. Currently reading Sula by Toni Morrison. Started the new Murakami a few weeks ago and had to put it down. Have only done that with a handful of books, but wow it was so boring and I couldn't do 700 pages of it. Homecoming is great! My friend actually created the show, so it's cool to see him getting some due credit. Started The Good Place due to recs around here, and it's a real fun ride. Also finally finishing Kimmy Schmidt. Gonna watch Shirkers tonight prob.
