Both are wonderful albums. A bit late to the party, but my personal fav snub is Adrianne Lenker's solo. What an incredible Fall album, esp "What Can You Say." Ahhhh < 3
It's an incredible revelation we're all still reeling from. Like, what in the fuck is the actual connection there? Did LME really copy paste or is he WAYNE DUPREE?! This is amazing
Was just gonna say this. Obvs Push > Drake, but this whole "beef" has me feeling bitter towards Push. I'm sorry, but outing a person's undisclosed child and making fun of a person with MS is characteristic shitty behavior and it's a bit gross to see everyone dismissing it bc Push had a cool song.
The praise for this movie is baffling. How is this not going to be absolutely horrendous? I remember way back when seeing the preview for this in theaters and straight up snorting when Gaga says “almost everybody my whole life has said they like the way I sounded but not the way I looked.” Honestly this is just Shallow Hal meets Crazy Heart and it’s kind of gross.
I see that. I think it’s a good (and sad) point that the larger and more important discussion surrounding inappropriate sexual and power dynamics/consent will be obscured by the new album rollout, as evidenced by some of the posts below. I do wish the album would reflect a newfound perspective too.
Great point. You’re right and that’s unfortunate. Interestingly enough, I found the article on p4k before the album was announced, so I was actually able to consume it as a stand-alone reflective piece, that is until the album release was mentioned later in the article.
Damn writing on a phone so thoughts/grammar might be scattered. Goddamn iPhone SE. also I totally respect where you’re coming from, just trying to understand it better
From the article...
“She recognized that we’ve honored it (the year break), and has since approved our plan to release an album and play some shows later on this year.”
I think this is an important point in the story, that they sought out and received permission to move forward. When I think about it, making music is their job. To continue their job, they made sure the victim was comfortable moving forward. That strikes me as somewhat classy. I guess the question is are we expecting them to not release an album again? Also, imagine if they released an album without Pelly’s piece. That would truly strike me as a horrible move. I feel like they had consent with the victim to continue their job of making music, they have an album to release, and they purposefully coincided the release with an empathic and wonderfully written piece addressing the allegations we’ve all been wondering about. Doesn’t strike me as a PR move, rather more of a contextual piece/clarification surrounding their album
No snark at all, but did you read the piece? The terms of the album rollout were dictated and approved by the victim. On a related note, I don’t think this was a non issue at all, and I feel like it was handled really well by both sides.
YBB., question for ya. I've been listening to this album Music for Saxofone and Bass Guitar by Sam Gendel and Sam Wilkes on repeat today. Do you know these fellas? Do you know this album? It's a beautiful little jazz/ambient record. Highly recommend!
