It's funny, the electro clubs here in Germany are the best place to find the most decent and not superficial people. But then they don't call it EDM here and it's not awful shit.
Faithful cover, well played... I think it's good? It's more of a moment of respect than artistic expression. I don't think it's possible to recreate the energy of the original, but she does a pretty damned good job here!!
This is a list I can absolutely get behind, before reading this article I thought 'If it doesn't feature Dive, Lounge Act or Radio Friendly Unit Shifter this list is flawed' - Smells Like Teen Spirit didn't occur to me which I found odd.
But at the same time "while such ideas might play as harmless whimsical fantasy in a vacuum, recreating them in service of selling beer seems more than a little crass — particularly when some of the celebs were so actively trying not to sell out" it's pretty difficult to disagree with this well made point. The purpose of this thing is to sell beer with lemonade in it... beer with lemonade in it.
I like it too. And I like that Kurt's fiddling around with a Jaguar, and a color that he actually played on. And that he's hanging out with John, who he always said was far and away his favourite Beatle.
I just can't get with this... like really? When I hear this it's going to be like "whoa, I just realised I've never really heard music before!"
I have a lot of flac files that I'll occasionally listen to and yer often they're much better than the mp3 versions. But it still depends how they're encoded, mastered, normalised. The other year, just the other year I realised my mp3s of Otis Redding's album "Live At The Whiskey A Go-Go" (SWEET live album btw) was only at 128 kbps. So I actually BOUGHT (I know) it at the itunes store at 320 kbps and I had to delete the 320s because it sounded like it was recorded underwater.
Then I decided I needed a higher quality version of Jigsaw Falling Into Place (sweet song btw) for my DJing (even though there was nothing wrong with my 320 version) and so I downloaded the flac and this version sounded flat and not dynamic at all (I do have the vinyl, I do buy music.)
THEN I was listening to reflektor after it came out on mp3 and my vinyl arrived, so I plugged it into my amp and got the songs synchronised and flicked between the mp3 and the phono input and guess what!? The mp3 sounded better to me so I continued on with the mp3. Maybe I just LIKE my music compressed to high heaven.
The point of these pointless stories is that it's not so simple as 'higher quality source = more enjoyable sound' - too many factors, it's so subjective.
Yer! and everyone has their own way of reading the album, for me the weak spots are I Saw the Light and Trouble Comes Running - I feel they're too poppy to complement the rest of the album.
Man this album could come sooner than we think!!
Transference had its weaknesses but made up for it with some incredible strengths. Before Destruction, Who Makes Your Money and Out Go The Lights have got to be three of their best songs and this seems to be following along the same lines.
Veganism is more ethical than vegetarianism and vegetarianism is more ethical than carnism.
That's true (hint: it has to do with suffering) and that's why vegans make people uncomfortable.
Love from jesse, a vegetarian.
This is a bizarre argument, I don't think there are many vegans who would deny cultures who depend on meat to survive of the right to eat meat. That's ridiculous.
I'm getting pretty tired of people taking the idea of white privilege too far in order to sound holier than thou.
White privilege is part of an undeniably relevant cultural theory. But I've never met a vegan who wants to apply his or her veganism to cultures for which it would be a completely alien and fatal idea; how ridiculous.
The Christopher Owens track is good and I'm relieved. But it sounds like the last half of Father, Son, Holy Ghost - which I regard as their weaker material - I miss the grittiness of Album... their best song remains Carolina. Another though: the new song's dynamics are very similar to Vomit. But Vomit was sublime, it came out after I broke up with my girlfriend and for the first year or so I couldn't even listen to it.
angry aussies will send you to a remote island unnecessarily separate you from your family and detain you there without notice of how long you might be expected to be detained - we're a such a fun, happy, relaxed, easy-going bunch. by the way... do you want a fight lyntonn?
But.... he is a rock star. it's just the truth, and a rock star is sort of the opposite of a dork, except for rivers cuomo of course. I don't think he comes off as a douche, I think a bit of honesty and ego is a good thing, yeah like you guys don't have an ego. This comment is fucking awesome, I didn't even capitalise rivers cuomo, I'm a fucking rock star.

P.S. ...GRIEVANCE! What a song, just go back and watch that Live at the Garden DVD and you'll know what I mean, as does she who was popularly referred to circa 2003 on the PJ forums as 'Grievance Girl' (you'll know what I mean).
I never realised the lyrics to corduroy were 'Everything has chains'... that's kind of disappointing, because 'Everything has changed, absolutely nothing's changed' is accidental lyrical genius... It first perfectly within the context of the song... it's like one of my favourite Pearl Jam lyrics!!
This is the best article about Pearl Jam I have read in years, so the guy talks about the length of album titles. They HAVE been short titles and I never realized that and it's kind of funny, just relax. The paragraph that starts with "A certain version of Pearl Jam ended with Riot Act." is a fine summation of post 2000 PJ. Backspacer was a horrendously bad record and I'm embarrassed about it. Pearl Jam's finest album was Binaural and they ended with Riot Act, any new material to come out of Pearl Jam now is to just to keep the tour going and it's sad. Also, Eddie is going bald... Eddie Vedder should have hair, that's obvious. Life has no meaning.
Oh my this has made my Friday night... the first rock album I ever got into, being 12. I happened to see them at this festival in Portugal last month and the whole thing kind of made me sad, they were like, I don't know old clowns or something... they look like a totally different band in this video. Almost like the same band I wore out a recorded VHS to of them playing at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago 1994. 'Do you ever think back, to another time, does it bring you so down that you thought you lost your mind?' That bit always killed me!!
Dishes has the sweetest, most wonderful and sensitive lyrics. The recording of it on The Park Is Mine is one of my favourite live recordings of any song, anywhere.

Why didn't Pitchfork review their album 'In Light'? That remains puzzling to me, I thought they were a really promising, hyped up band... are they considered 'uncool' or something?
Thanks Amanda! I did check it out, definitely has that wintery appeal of the Fleet Foxes, I'm so glad I got to know the Fleet Foxes last album in the somnolent snow of Germany rather than my sunny home of Australia. I'll never forget making a last minute decision to see this show at Rockpalast!
