I saw this a few weeks ago at Disneyland. I assumed of course that they had the rights to use it. Also this http://www.disneyeveryday.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/IMG_0476-768x1024.jpg
Is it any wonder why she might have been nervous for this or any other recent performance, reading these comments and what is said about her on Twitter, etc.? If you think artists don't look at that stuff, you're crazy. Haven't seen a non top 40 artist this overly criticized or scrutinized in my life. Especially for every reason other than the songs themselves.
First off, it's possible for people to like music before and/or regardless of whether or not a tastemaker site gave it a good review. Second, I would never dream of making a year end list if I didn't feel that I'd listened to a good chunk of music and determined what was the best. For the most part, the same 20 or so artists are reappearing on these lists for being good, not for being all there is. In a site's quest to have a list of artists that no one else has on theirs, they can sometimes leave off some of the best stuff. What purpose does that really serve?
I don't think these records are easy listens at all. These, for the most part, are the records that are best enjoyed by a patient, attentive music listener. A Bruno Mars record is an easy listen.
Because hip hop isn't music, right? Jeez. This website is branching out. Live with it or don't read/comment on the posts that don't interest you. Pretty simple. There's plenty of content here for fans of indie music or whatever you may come here for.
This is a big contradiction most fans of art are guilty of (me included). You love something and want to share it with people, but it starts to bother you when *too many* people know about it. Regardless of how someone discovers a band like Real Estate, people are there supporting a good band. Is it more immature to first be interested in something after a popular website gives it a rave review, or hate the people that discovered it that way?
Or the fact that it's a cover of a song with a sample of a remix of another song is actually pretty great. It's also an awesome cover. Music doesn't have rules.
I agree. What I'd prefer is for her to be herself. It's amazing the double standard some people have towards her. Looks? Star quality? Since when do these things matter to indie music fans?
I was sort of with her until the part about spending a lot of money to impress her peers. Ew.
As a lesbian and former musician, part of me can relate and part of me can't. I spent 5 years in a band playing shows every night AND working full time to pay the bills. I never made it and I got sick of being poor, so I learned how to do search marketing. And guess what? I've been laid off twice in the last 3 years and am currently struggling to find another job. We've all got it hard. She should consider herself lucky to have been able to pursue her music full time for so long. Hardly any of us get there.
