Yup! I found that, when not viewing the video, I enjoyed the song much more. This mostly has to do with my disdain for that stupid fucking cowboy hat. Make it go away.
It's interesting to hear Nicolas & JB's solo projects up to this point. Two very distinct styles borrowing just a hint of flavor from one another. Going back through their catalogs while listening to this solo material, you can tell which records they leaned heavily on or who had the most influence on what tracks.
I feel like he helped pioneer the sound people are saying he's trying out, which is basically him doing what we all wish our favorite bands would do. How many times have all of us said "I wish (band) would make another record as good as their first one!" I'm excited to see where he's going to take this record.
Why is it that everyone wants to be "impressed" by a record? Does that make us feel cooler than the people who listen to the record after us? What is really stopping you from feeling something from a record?
This record is moving. It rubs salt in all of my wounds from past break-ups which drives me to madness, yet the record keeps on going and I find myself comforted. There's a guy at the end of the bar who is drinking the exact same beer as you by himself for the exact same reason. Lend him your ear and you'll gain a new story.
Stop trying to analyze for the sake of analyzing and let this record break your fucking heart.
I hope the whole record sounds like this. The genesis of love can be a beautiful thing if you get over how you want the other person to perceive you as super charming and cool. Just having a "fuck yes" feeling about new love is the best.
Bro.
Luke. Bro.
Gotta give you props, man. I, too, love the "Death From Above" record label. I can especially get behind 1979 and their latest release "Physical Worlds." It's like the best record for me to put on when i'm driving a girl home and wanting to speed on the highway, so I switch it from The Management's "The Kids" to 1979's "Virgins," look at my bodacious future slam piece and say "Sup..." Then the night takes care of itself, ya know? Total go-to.
Just do me a favor: next time you're mad about something and want to be sexy about it, listen to the first half of "Phyzikal Worldz," eat a pile of cocaine, chug a Stella, and "Macho Man" Randy Savage elbow-drop your arch-nemesis through the goddamn Grand Canyon.
