Congratulations, Justice!!! Btw, your playlist is amazing! Any mix that has Pure, Idaho, Hold On When You Get Love And Let Go When You Give It, Cut to the Feeling, Do You Love Me, You and I, Tongue Tied, Rainbow Connection, Something So Strong, I've Been Waiting, Ask, Home, and Sun -- top tier songs and some of my favorites -- gets all the 10s from me. So much so that I'd be curious if you have other favorite lesser-known artists/albums/songs from that I might like. Regardless, have an awesome day, tomorrow! Enjoy it all!!!!
At the school bus stop this morning, LittleShade finalized her ranking of "Vision of Love." Not giving much hint beforehand, I did not know which way she would go with this one. In the end, LittleShade gave "Vision of Love" a "3 or a 4."
Although I am generally not a fan at all of melisma, I actually liked several of MC's songs off her first two albums before her musical direction veered in one direction while my musical tastes veered in another. "Vision of Love," though, was never one of my favorite MC songs. It holds up okay thanks to Mariah's vocal, but not as well as some of her other early songs. I give "Vision of Love" a 5.
Catching up with rankings on the past few songs:
"Nothing Compares 2 U" Sinéad O'Connor – My Rank: 6; LittleShade’s Rank: 4
"Vogue" Madonna – My Rank: 5; LittleShade: 6
"Hold On" Wilson Phillips – Me: 7; LittleShade: 8
"It Must Have Been Love" Roxette – Me: 6; LittleShade: 7
"Step By Step" New Kids on the Block – Me: 5; LittleShade: --NOT YET ABLE TO FINALIZE A RANKING-- (note: this song has been particularly hard for LittleShade to figure out how to score)
I fall closer to Pauly Steyreen's camp than most of the rest of you on SAWI: Although I haven't heard it in many, many years, I pretty quickly remembered the chorus and rap parts before clicking the YouTube 'play' button. It's probably because I LOVED "She Ain't Worth It" back in 1990 - it was probably people with my taste back then that led to it getting to #1, haha. While, no, it does not hold up well to the passing of time, I was still able to listen to it with a smile on my face. I give "She Ain't Worth It" a 5.
Oooh, that is worth looking up ozcorp! You are right that LittleShade hardly ever has given a #1 song 2 or more rating points higher than me. It looks like the record is 3.5 rating points by the following two songs:
"Man in the Mirror" Michael Jackson - My Rank: 4; LittleShade's Rank: 7.5
"Rock On" Michael Damian - My Rank: 2; LittleShade's: 5.5
The more you know...
LittleShade was extremely bored by and did not like “I’ll Be Your Everything” at all either. She also gave it a 1.
Catching up with our past several rankings:
"Another Day in Paradise" - Phil Collins - My Rank: 4; LittleShade's Rank: 3
"How Am I Supposed to Live Without You" - Michael Bolton - My Rank: 2; LittleShade's Rank: 1
"Opposites Attract" - Paula Abdul & The Wild Pair - My Rank: 7; LittleShade's Rank: 8
"Escapade" - Janet Jackson - My Rank: 6; LittleShade's Rank: 8
"Black Velvet" - Alannah Myles - My Rank: 4; LittleShade's Rank: 4.5 ("a 4 or a 5")
"Love Will Lead You Back" - Taylor Dayne - My Rank: 3; LittleShade's Rank: 3.5
Hi everyone. Since I started reading TNO column "live" with you in early 1980, this the first #1 song that I knew I had heard before, as listened to/watched either AT40 &/or AT10 virtually every week at this time, but had no recollection at all of how the song went. Of course this morning at breakfast, as I listened to this song with LittleShade, my 10-year-old daughter, the memory of the song slowly came back. I knew nothing of Tommy Page's life, and the sad end to it, before today. Unfortunately, “I’ll Be Your Everything” is not a good song, and its production & vocals do not hold up to 2021 scrutiny at all. I give “I’ll Be Your Everything” a 1.
"Roxette made dubious history in 1989-1990. They had two #1 singles from an album that didn't hit Billboard's Top 20."

Hi everyone! I always liked "I Wish It Would Rain Down" and "Something Happened on the Way to Heaven," but I am not a huge fan of this song. I give "Another Day in Paradise" a 4.
Agreed, thegue, about "Downeaster Alexa" and "And So it Goes." Definitely my two favorite songs on that album (and two of my favorite Joel songs overall).
Note: "Listen to Your Heart" is my first 10 since "Need You Tonight" at the beginning of 1988. Roxette's Look Sharp! album was the first album I really loved, listening to that cassette tape over and over again in late 1989 and the early 1990s, and "Listen to Your Heart" with that great orchestral part at the end of the song made for the perfect last track on that album - always giving me something to look forward to at the end of that great album.
Catching up on LittleShade's and my rankings of thepast few 1989 Number Ones:
"Girl I'm Gonna Miss You" Milli Vanilli - Me: 3; LittleShade: 3
"Miss You Much" Janet Jackson - Me: 9; LittleShade: 7
"Listen to Your Heart" Roxette - Me: 10; LittleShade: 8
"When I See You Smile" Bad English - Me: 5; LittleShade: 7
"...Whatever you do, don't put the blame on you-ou-ou..."
My ten-year-old daughter LittleShade and I have been randomly singing the chorus of "Blame It On The Rain" to each other since we first played it at breakfast yesterday. Man, that is a catchy chorus. Without the above-quoted line, I think I would give the song about a 3. The writing and vocal performance of that one line, though, elevates the song enough for me to give "Blame It On The Rain" a 5.
