Uh, does anyone else feel like the Giraffes shit is just a rip off of the George Washington vid from a year or two back? Not to mention the Chuck Norris fad? see: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbRom1Rz8OA
I thought that ad was weird. and yeah, weak. I think it's great that Microsoft couldn't play even a second of Gillis' music lest they fear being sued out of a couple mil. Girl Talk does a lot more than throw sixteens over rock records. He seamlessly builds entirely new compositions from fragments of as many as half a dozen songs at one time. The scope, the knack for near-impeccable pacing, and the ear for what works and what doesn't are all uncanny ability. Playing a Girl Talk recording (or watching a Girl Talk show) compared to the vast majority of "mash-up" DJs is no contest.
Guys, guys, guys: It's pretty obvious that Devendra takes this really REALLY seriously. If you want a good indication of his abilities as a musician, don't listen to Cripple Crow or anything like that- this is definitely all you need.
Holy shit this song is bananas. Should definitely be the next single.
I'm really excited for this album. Basically, what he said about Love Lockdown applies to the whole experience: "Sometimes you just gotta follow your heart" or something to that effect. And I think it's very admirable that Kanye is willing to put himself out there like this. Yeah, it's off the rails, it's risky as fuck, but I'd rather this than another Graduation. And another great thing, is it's Kanye traveling to the edge of artiness, but bringing it back with shit like "WHY YOU ACTIN LIKE A ROBOCOP?" It's clunky, but I find it endearing (though I definitely see why people wouldn't), like a lot of Kanye's shit. But at least we know Rhymefest isn't ghostwriting his shit anymore. Basically, whether it's an album I want to listen to all the time or not, I think that as a piece of art, as a statement, 808s & Heartbreak should be respected, because it takes serious guts to do something like this, and with full conviction. That's why it keeps getting reported on. It's the integrity and true adventurousness of it all. Btw, I <3 Love Lockdown, Coldwest Winter, and Robocop put a smile on my face. Haven't heard this yet (I'm at schoooool).
Lil Waybne is Dwayne Carter's lesser known doppelganger. For those of you out of the loop.
If you had said that Love Guru costume was for dressing up as Devendra, I don't think many people would have doubted. Uhhh, Speed Racer was awesome.
Somebody's never listened to Beenie Man. Or Elephant Man. Or DMX. Or Cam'Ron. Or Eminem. (etc.etc.etc.) Or heard the term no homo. "Young homie gettin paid in advance, while you faggot ass niggas gettin AIDS in the ass." - Lil Waybne, Go DJ
Why so mean, Gabe? They're trying to make a positive difference.
Whoa whoa there. Santogold, maybe. I've never listened to Blitzen Trapper. But Fleet Foxes? Word? The Hives are indebted to a kind of music that exploded in the 60s/70s. Fleet Foxes take in strong elements from music that is centuries old. I think you're way off with that one. Saying that a punk band will outlast a folk band just isn't a sustainable argument based on actual historical status. A beautiful voice and an acoustic instrument is far more time-worn than a yelp and an electric guitar. _ Anyway, people need to get off the weak shit of insulting Stereogum because they insult something you don't like. Again and again, people respond to snide comments about a band they dig with snide comments about bands they don't dig. It's just a ridiculous circle. The Hives were once an international sensation. Their stature has diminished to the point where they are approaching cult status. That's all. I love quite a bit of their shit. But popularity-wise (and apparently quality-wise, since so many people are dissing on their new stuff, which I haven't heard), they're not as high up as they used to be. Of course it's a joke, of course it's hyperbole. I thought it was funny. Oh, and yeah: These songs sound really alike.
I like this song a lot. I like a few portions from So Divded a lot. Namely the opening and closing tracks. And Wasted State of Mind. I haven't listened to the rest of it (or Source Tags) enough to form an opinion.
Jay-Z has always done guest verses on a plethora of songs. Hence him being one of the most consistently prolific MC in the game for the past ten years or so. That's uhh...nothing like Jamie Foxx presenting an award.
Yeah dude. It's clear Animal Collective has been a creative and commercial rut for the last few albums. They might as well call it quits. When's that new Vampire Weekend coming out?
YOU KEEP YOUR FRIENDS CLOSE, AND YOUR ENEMIES CLOSER IT'S NOT THE MAN WITH THE GUN WHO HAS THE POWER, IT'S THE MAN SELLING THE GUNS YOU DON'T FIND THE JACKAL, THE JACKAL FINDS YOU
I hate hyperbole. Even when I use it.
Yes, Radiohead is totally washed up! Releasing probably the most profitable album of their career, that's received significant critical (and fan) praise, and influenced the entire music industry as we know it. Bunch of losers. AND THEYRE SO DEPRESSING.
God Hates Fangs? Did anyone see the clip posted a week ago when Suki was talking to the sherriff? Almost every single word uttered is straight out of a shitty Logo drama? There's nothing subtle about the homosexual metaphor. And even if not, it's still in line with every group ever demonized and isolated by a majority. And it STILL would be taking a terrible, counterproductive stance. I mean, the dialogue is terrible. Even if their so-called quips weren't lame as all hell, they still speak in extremely stilted TV speak. There's nothing lifelike about them. I don't for a second believe any of these people actually exist. Their relationships are forced and not dynamic at all. I really don't like when opinions are stated as overbearing facts. It's overbearing and alienates all those who do not agree. But oh my gosh, this is one of the least enjoyable shows I can remember ever watching. How in the world is this on HBO?
I absolutely love that when the first guy fires the gun, the main bad guy standing a few yards across from him apparently has enough time to be full-on screaming by the time the bullet hits him in the face. Also, when your crew is in a circle targeting a single person, it makes awesome amounts of sense to run firing wildly at chest/head level. Also also, The Fifth Element is straight super. I know you said your 17 year old self loved it, and I'm uhh... still my 17 year old self, but regardless everyone, from Bruce WIllis to Gary Oldman to Chris Tucker to Milla to Luc Besson are just firing gold. Great fucking fun. Plus you get to see Tricky eckshplode.
Man, that woman will fuck anything that moves, as long as when it moves it's only 17 years old. _ Hilarious. Also, the Wicker Man reference had me dying. I really want to watch this shitty shit shit now.
I've never heard Rock n Roll or Easy Tiger or Gold or any actual Ryan Adams release. I don't read his blogs, I don't give a shit about his supposed posturing or "sellout"ness. But I have The Suicide Handbooks and I absolutely love quite a few of those songs. And that's enough for me.
KoRn has always had an affinity for hip-hop. They discovered Limp Bizkit, did songs with Ice Cube and Nas, did that Twisted Transistor video with David Banner Snoop and Lil Jon. So this isn't really that surprising. But, there's not really an excuse to be fucking up lyrics. Especially in the chorus. I just... I don't know what to say. He sounds like Ben Folds a lot of the time. Which is funny all on it's own. And sad. Yeah. Um.
I've been following Saul since SLAM came out (I was seven, but still! My whole family was enraptured by that film), and I was so happy to see him at Lolla. "Is this...Saul.. Williams guy any good? Right...When is Girl Talk coming on? Have you ever seen them before?" Oh, those GT fans didn't know what the fuck they were in for.
But we all know what actually happened at Bonnaroo. also, Amnesiac is awesome.
This seems like it should be a video for Skeletal Lamping
