Sellouts - bands that write pieces of orchestral score.
Note: There is a common misconception that bands that make #1 records, win Grammies and headline festivals are sellouts. The truth of the matter is that any band doing a thought experiment on a fiction national anthem is selling out.
I could not agree more about Tommy Emmanuel. I can certainly imagine Skrillex being the same way.
I'm imagining an Emmanuel and Skrillex collaboration...I want to die inside.
HA! I have a very hard time believing that Bradford Cox did this as a publicity stunt. He did it because he felt like doing it. In fact, judging from his interview with Pitchfork, he seems fairly pissed off that the incident was deemed noteworthy.
Jacques Derrida doesn't have anything to do with this article. If his thinking has informed this in any way, then it is very indirect. The term has grown past the meaning it had during his development of it in the 60s and 70s. It's a larger word with a wider meaning in contexts outside of academic philosophy.
In the context of this article the word deconstruction seems to make sense. The author is trying to tear apart the stereotypes, the image, and the personalities surrounding Sleigh Bells to see if he/she (?) can make sense of them.
You cannot be serious about Minaj on that "Dance Ass" song. the only reason anyone could misinterpret her verse as anything other than absolutely terrible would be because the rest of the song is bullshit. That's the worst song I've heard all year. Big Sean is a joke and Minaj is way overrated. She was great on "Monster" and that's really about it.
I think Father, Son, Holy Ghost is one of those albums where anyone could pick any song off of it and call it their favorite and I wouldn't have a beef with it. I think people like "Vomit" because its a powerful rock ballad and we live in 2011, a time when it's hard to find good songs like that.
Lists need to hold off until the year is actually over. The Roots and The Black Keys both released damn good albums this week, but they won't be getting any love.
