yup. Well fuck me for sharing a real emotion on a blog.
"with every move *she made" - obviously.
This is weird - In the past I was always one of the LDR detractors - getting annoyed with every move he made - musical or otherwise. Then - something happened - I saw her live last summer - it was an ok performance, but i came away from it thinking..."wow...i'm like...in love with her". I heard 'Honeymoon' when it came out then this summer, and for obvious reasons, it became the soundtrack to my actual marraige..the rest of the tunes started falling in place..."High by the beach"...my wife went back to Denmark and I was left here on the island for two months on my own due to work/life..etc...THAT spoke to me too... I was ready for a song about smoking, drinking sun-drop and eating combos while watching "That Metal Show" re-runs, but alas... The point is - this is the only LDR album that I get. It actually moves me - and that conflict of her being fake and brainwashing youth or whatever has washed over and now I just accept that i'm a middle-aged married man who crys when he hears LDR. I also spend a huge portion of my day explaining to teeners on Quora that she's not actually sad, but nonetheless...I think this is the best review of the album possible.
Correction: that band that is coming out with an EP is "Tile breaker", not "Tie Breaker" - and they are very good. Just thught i would drop that in! Great to see some Aarhus bands getting on the 'Gum.
I was thinking "even if one person..." so thank you.
Just yesterday we had the entire catalogue of Richard Thompson rated and put out on the table - one of the greatest musicians of the modern era - with little fanfare from the usual Streogum readers - now we have a Bieber/Skrillex joint and the page lights up like it was a Smiths reunion. Just sayin'...
i meant "Henry..." being hands down even an album that RT doesn't even like i gather - forgetting that, not to list it.
When i saw this list come up in my newsfeed I actually squealed with joy and oured myself a beer to get stuck in - My favorite webzine counting down one of my favorite catalogues. part of me was totally deflated though as I reeeeally prefer Electric and Dream Attic to any of his solo stuff without Linda - but with a catalogue as cramazing as RT's and fanhood so feverent, you're gonna have issues with whatever goes on, and like you said pretty much: there ain't no bad RT albums....EXCEPT Henry The Human Fly - did we just forget that one? i mean - i would make me feel better to have that dead last rather that You, Me, Us. Is this an oopsie?
I'll take this all day long over MOST Foo Fighters tunes.
It just seems like Kurt is th new Hendrix now. Actually, Hendrix never put out a stand-up set.
"network looking to give creedence to it's talent show"
He's definitely trying to shag her and we all know it.
I might be late to the commetns here, but for such an important article, this was a little long winded and hard to read (over the photos) due to the new layout - frustratingly I skimmed over most of it after I got your point. also- yes, I'm in bands, I'm a vinyl collector too, (always have been) and the vinyl thng is wearing me out and making it impossible for smaller artists to press their shit and very frustrating to see stuff like the FROZEN SOUNDTRACK and re-pressings of other shite clogging up the presses and racks. no one needs that on vinyl. I'd rather have a mis-pressing of SKM - Benji that I never play.
Nice photos - also, cold hard proof that Napoleon Dynamite's brother is on keys in Alt-j

I don't like him and yet I have 3 of his records. That is simply genius.
"Once you start writing about the road, it's time to get off the road". I love Kozelek - but unless he sings another verse about my town, (he did in UK Blues) I'm tired of hearing his tour diary.
Are people talking through this? we wait 50 years for a show and you can't shut up for an hour?
Totally spot on with "Chairs Missing" at the head of the table. what a feast.
Was just thinking about how a screen with changeable art would work in my house - then I thought about a party scenario where some drunk girl just wants to show you her pictures from her gap year in Spain...ugh...
I wonder if Nick Offermann has re-instated his gig - we need to know what Ron Swanson is doing about this malarkey.
Has no-one brought up that Ed Sheeran song that sounds EXACTLY like "Let's Get It On" yet? I mean.....
Kind of a precident for that I think would be John Fogerty's publishers suing him over him sounding too much like himself in the 80's. I can't recall the specifics but apparently he ripped off "Run Through The Jungle" (His own Creedence track) with one of his solo songs. He was sued by CCR's publishing/label and had to pay restitution and wasn't allowed to perform CCR songs for like 15 years!
Somehow this is much more ironic knowing that Ryan is most likely sober. whish I was there. PS - Norwegian air is on strike - affecting lots of people trying to get to CPH this week.
grrrr this layout. love the snip though.
stereogum websites ranked worst to best....
I can't see anything.
everyday is record store day for me - and that is all that matters.
no, you need to help others Teri. you are awesome.
If Louder than Bombs is the best Smiths album, that would make "Mania".....anyway.
As much as I really hate most of the people involved, those tracks are just mesmerizing.
Ryan Adams - Ryan Adams. that's me being brutally honest.
lucky dude. where do i sign up?
i don't want to be cast in the light of some old man sitting in a rocking chair pointing his finger at the radio and scowling- i agree with you on all points, and i agree that all these artists simply have better albums out right now in the classic/folk/songwriter/rock area - I just thought that the tone of the article was such a random jab at Tom Petty and a bit like saying "Na na na - Hey Tom Petty....these new bands are doing you better than you". why not poking at Mark Knopfler or Bryan adams, or The Waterboys or Springsteen.....they're all putting out shite now and alot of these sounds have as much in common with those guys as TP
thats a very bitchy article. I thought "Hipnotic Eye" was a pretty good 'late period' Petty album. i'd like to see any of these artists have a career for almost 40 years and still pull that out of the bag.
