As someone who counts YLT as their favourite band, I give my seal of approval to this list. I personally would switch 'I Am Not Afraid of You' with 'And Then Nothing', but that's just because I prefer loud YLT to soft YLT. I don't always agree with these lists, but this one is on the money. Were I introducing a friend to the catalogue, this would be where I would point them.
Dunno who these guys are, but they are really ripping off Jet!
I didn't like Jackie Brown. Should I be worried about the album?!
Not a huge list of albums, and they're all VERY high quality (not including Westing). So a list like this seems irrelevant to me.
I think he belongs in the list "Top 40 new bands you will hear in a car commercial in the next six months". Not a dis on his music. But it will be ubiquitous soon enough, so it doesn't matter that he's not on this list.
Glad to see Rather Ripped getting it's dues. It's probably the least 'Sonic Youth-y' album in their catalogue, but as an album on it's own, it's fucking awesome.
Just to clarify, this is just my personal experience. I understand everyone loves him, I just has trouble getting past everything that surrounds his music.
Michael Jackson creeps me out. Yes, he made some great music. But his whole mythology is just really unsettling; this album cover especially, being that it highlights his nosejob and increasingly pale skin.
A love any band that uses the phrase "Gives me the shits".
While I understand that some bands boycotting a country may help, if you were a punk band, you'd would be doing a greater service by touring their, playing to and inspiring audiences and letting a thousand flowers bloom.
I like this analogy more than you will ever know. Except, Be Here Now is actually great, if you listen to it like it was a Darkness record. Where every second that Liam isn't singing is filled with a guitar solo "In a Wayne's World styling" to quote Noel.
Exactly. Not to get all "I like his old stuff better than his new stuff", but if you look at some of the stuff he did before he blew up, you might hate him a little less.
That first Darkness album shows that it is perfectly possible to make funny songs that also work as songs in their own right.
As a graphic designer, I must point out that the difference between black and white is not subtle. But the point you made about the songs still stands.
The chorus is fucking "WOOOOO HOOOOO". I don't know how much more of a joke you can get. It's just a big, dumb, rock song. Blur don't usually do big, dumb, rock songs.
I don't agree that Song 2 belongs in the list. But I agree that the list deliberately skews to obscure tracks.
It's really more of a Graham song than a Blur song.
I prefer Farm, but not by much. I think it wins over Beyond purely for having some of the best album art ever.
They used Arial on the cover instead of Helvetica. ;) I see what you did there.
Worked great as part of the opening ceremony. But otherwise, this is a pretty superfluous cover. At least that shitty Michael Jackson one tried to make the thing sound different, and tied in with his rampant egotism.
The one lesson that my Dad taught me as a child: "Don't listen to Guns and Roses! Axl Rose is a wanker." Never has someone been more right about anything.

Dear This Thread, I don't care that you buy CDs. Sincerely, Me. P.S. I think this rises in catalogue sales really has to do with price. When I go onto iTunes, the drastic difference in price is pretty enticing. Plus, it's worth considering that a lot of older people are still making the switch to digital, and are once again going through the process of re-buying everything they owned, first on vinyl, then on CD. This seems especially plausible after The Beatles were finally added to iTunes last year; that was a watershed moment for a lot of boomers.
How can this be Hype Williams when it doesn't end with"To be Continued..."?
Cue comments about Marc making the interview about himself.
Surprised you're getting all these downvotes for using 'the N word'. Well, not surprised, I guess no one here is a fan of either Lester Bangs or Louis CK.
All amazing songs. That's pretty much all I can say. This constant list making is irrelevant. I do like that they're giving the Roses a bit of coverage, always helps; criminally underrated.
*insert comment about how you guys have taken too long to write about this band*
No, the voice won't change unless she makes a concerted effort to alter it.
Hey Ya! should be number one. Mostly because it is the perfect synthesis of all pop music up to that point in time.
STILL don't give a shit about this person. Look, she certainly makes for some nice eye candy, and that Videogames song was...neat. But c'mon. Let's get back to talking about Japandroids or something.
Last year was way worse. I'm a punk/SST fan, so this has been a nice year for me so far.
'Supersonic' charts higher than 'Live Forever'? Bullshit. And why is their no Oasis in the top three! Top 2 are definitely correct though.
This makes so little sense.

THAAAAAAAANNNKK YOU! I've been reading this blog for more than 3 years, and finally someone is speaking some sense.
Why do we care about this meaningless institution? But if we are: • Who gives a fuck about Chic? • Yes, Black Flag • Yes, Kiss.
