The game the kids are playing is called British Bulldog. It was a million time better than Red Rover but it led to a lot of fights, growing up.
I can think of a better "first new track in ten years" than Mladic. It encapsulates everything there is to love about the band. A grand welcome back, indeed.
Just listened to Mladic. Can't wait to hear it live. Cheese and rice. They rock that one the eff out.
Got tix for their show on the 14th. If I die at any point this year, I hope it's that evening during a cathartic swell of awesome.
I can see what you're getting at but, trust me, I'm not confused. They could have sold the sex with something more relatable to their core market. The image and the music doesn't necessarily have to be attached at the hip. Ultimately, it really doesn't matter anyway because no one is going to buy such an expensive car based on the commercial, regardless of who's in it. The cheapest version of the F Type is going to go for around $70,000. People making that type of an investment are a lot more concerned about the gearbox and the 0-60 than the clout of the spokesperson.
So what you're saying is I'm not allowed to share my opinion about this? Or is it that I'm not allowed to share any opinion you don't agree with? Let me know which one it is because I don't want to go one more day of my obviously terrible life offending the great Sam Gho (Stereogum commentator).
Feel like this is the sort of advertising that will probably miss its target audience. I would venture to guess most of the people who actually know who she is can't afford the car.
Seconded. I've been preaching her hotness for some time now.
I think we need a few more people to post about how Let it Be should be number 1. I don't think we have enough of those. Any who, I've always been fond of the Hootenanny cover art. It gives a clever wink to its audience, I think, in how it copies those '60s compilation LPs that Mercury and Capitol would put out (and my parents owned in abundance). Their music was always (seemingly) inspired by the pop song writing of that era even when sonically it did really seem so at face value. It was very fitting for that album. Maybe I've always read too much into that but whatever.
Completely agree. It's like how you're supposed to say Bee Thousand is the best GBV album, yet all of their best songs are on Alien Lanes (for me, anyway). That's how I feel about Tim. When I hear the band's name, for whatever reason I think of songs off of Tim first. For me, it really doesn't get any better than Left of the Dial.
He now owns the ingredients to a '90s Slim Jim commercial
Also, put Haley Dekle on my short list for Indie crush of the year
I recognize that white room from the Virtual Insanity video
Perfect timing for this album. It sounds like that last few days of summer.
Can we take a second to acknowledge just how awesome Jailbase is? I live in a not-so-small suburban area so discovering someone I know on there is kind of like making the top ten comments on Shut up, Dude.
Agree. But I think you got your answer. 76 comments and counting. I feel like these sorts of lists should have a face to them. Like, "Hi, we're Tracy and Tim, and this is OUR ten favorite Wilco songs. What are yours?" Or something of the like. I mean, we know that's basically what this is anyway, but just hammer home the idea that this is music and music is totally subjective and it's all personal preference no matter who puts their name on the list. *tucks soapbox neatly back into the place where the soapbox is kept whydowehavethis?*
At great risk of taking our tongue-in-cheek appreciation of 311 too far, I felt I'd share this little nugget from Rolling Stone. And I read: "The Creed singer made an unwelcome comment to Martinez's wife, after which drummer Chad Sexton, who was friend (sic) with Stapp, tried to calm him down. "That's when he sucker-punched me," Martinez told Rolling Stone. "He hit me right in the face." Stapp then reportedly hit Martinez's wife, someone called P-Nut got involved, and eventually hotel security shut it down. Martinez suffered a fractured knuckle." Look at you, Rolling Stone. Pretending you're too cool to know who P-Nut is. Because you know EXACTLY who P-Nut is. Don't me jealous that you're not on his level.
When he inevitably performs the songs live will that act ultimately defeat the purpose of this? This is a very cool idea, by the way. I just hope there's enough time between the release of the music and his eventual performance of the songs to allow for the true vision of our more talented brothers and sisters to flow out across the Youtubes uninfluenced. Also, will there be a tab version for us stupids?
Sexual chocolate only available as new idea(l) position? Maybe? (I'm sorry)
Some should do a list like this for Guided By Voices when Bears For Lunch comes out. And then that person should probably get a two week paid vacation.
I have a new favorite video of the year. The fact that I never really had one in the first place is not important.
The music itself sounds dated, but may I be so bold as to say we're far enough away from the turn of the millennium to call this a throwback? Both songs sound exactly as I remember Desaparecidos way back when.
Has Best Editing always been a category? Who is MTV trying to fool with that one. You're not the academy, you're Flo Rida.
It sort of sounded like trying to listen to two good songs playing at the same time - there's two much going on to like either of them. I'll reserve judgment until, like, the album comes out. But only to hear the other songs. I don't think the context of the entire album will really change this or any other AC song. They all tend to live in their own space. I don't know, maybe it'll grow on me.
It presents a number of liability issues as well. It would also have to become a world-wide attraction to stay profitable because it would lose its novelty with the locals pretty fast.
Wow. Someone came by and DID NOT like this conversation. Oh, Stereogum.
I would be for it, but it's pretty much been all but scrapped at this point. It's getting zero support in the city and minimal support in the suburbs. If for some reason they are able to get that thing up and running, it would be a pretty telling statement about the area. Zombie theme park? Yes. But urban farming as a means to re-concentrate the cities population and put the massive acreage of abandoned land to use? No.
Always. http://i49.tinypic.com/24vp114.jpg
That it has, Donny. We're holding on in hope, but not holding our breath, that the next change will actually be a positive one.
Even I draw the line at driving to Flint. Place is awful.
This week, the city of Detroit turned 311. How should I celebrate, you guys?!
That horse is in a world of trouble
