My copy arrived in the mail Monday and I've been absorbing it since. Very short, poppy, and grows a lot. Not as immediate as No Mas and earlier EPs/Jamz n Jemz, but really addicting.
This segment is kinda like the tl;dr of Stereogum.
Some weeks, it's just too busy to keep up with all of the news happening. With this segment, I know I can come here Sunday morning, settle in with a cup of coffe and feel caught up.
Thank you for this.
The Vespertine Live album is arguably better than the studio version.
And, contrary to the reviewer's opinion, I don't believe Frosti or any part of Vespertine to be superfluous.
Usually, when I discover an artist I like, I go all out and try to absorb their entire discography. I was in design in college, so I had a lot of headphone time while drawing. I would bring giant CD wallets to studio, pick an artist, and play their albums from newest to oldest until I had a good feel for the variations from album to album. I spent a couple digesting Bjork, Sigur Ros, Do Make Say Think, and Tortoise during that time.
Coincidentally, I've been revisiting Bjork this past week, and Vespertine is hands down my favorite.
Lincoln was in even deeper economic decline than the other motor companies and is currently trying to rebrand--hence the name change from "Lincoln" to "Lincoln Motor Company." Not sure how effectively this massive musical project will improve their bottom line, but who cares. This project looks impressive.
I hear you re: Bonnaroo's palate cleanser, buffet-style approach. It rewards the adventurous listener moreso than many other festivals. Which could be good or bad depending your intentions. I've always found it to be good. Some of my favorite shows in years' past were the shows I never intended to see, but accidentally did and ended up loving.
Whoa, what an interesting list. I dig it. It wouldn't be mine, but it has some of his really interesting deep cuts. Get Real Paid is hilarious/disorienting/addicting.
Weird horn sounds are way too high in the mix, blech. This could be turned into a decent song eventually though.
I guess they need inspiration from somewhere, but the fact that it comes from a "twitter battle" is a huge turnoff to me--a disposable theme.
Kudos to the writer and commenters here. Opinions aside, the first step toward progress is awareness. The more we talk about the issues at hand and share our personal experiences, the better we begin to understand what is wrong, where we stand, and how it can be addressed.
Personally, I grew up buying tapes, then CDs, then illegally downloading a handful of tracks (we had a dialup connection) while continuing to buy CDs, to illegally downloading albums (buying the ones I liked), to a mix of illegal and legal downloading and now I buy vinyl and download.
I'm still nostalgic for the physical product and accompanying artwork and lyrics, have an appreciation for higher fidelity, and want to support artists as best I can. Regrettably, I have a bigger appetite for music than what I can afford, but I try to purchase vinyl, concert tickets and merch as often as I am able.
