dude i chugged some whiskey and railed some coke and everything is awesome now. sleigh bells, america's next top model, even the tea party. but especially sleigh bells.
on second and third listen, i can see why all the press about their live show is so positive. i'm sure this would melt your face at 1 or 2 a.m. i just think the sound will get old fast.
i bet it takes about two weeks for people to get sick and tired of this record, right about the time they will start blasting it at your local claire's. then rill rill will take off for a bit. then sleigh bells will sound ridiculously dated in about a year. say hello to your 14 year old niece's new favorite record.
kind of boring, as far as m.i.a. goes. i agree with the first two posts.
that was my initial reaction too, but then i was listening to it and watching some weird shit happen so it just made sense. but the video is terrible, i think...
i like nmh as much as the next person, but sometimes the attention he gets is a little weird. like borderline cult-ish. i wish he would just put out a new record already so people can stop acting like they're waiting for the second coming. until then i guess it's nothing but yeti-sighting-quality video and the same 5 songs...
dude how can you deny that part after 3:03? that being said, i thought the video was kinda boring and didn't do the song justice.
kind of spooky, vaguely menacing. anyone else get that feeling? i've been waiting for the lp since animal tracks, but i'm starting to wonder just how far this formula can take them. i mean, this song is only 2 minutes. it will be interesting to see just how much variation they can get. or maybe i need to move to the catskills.
it sounds presumptious to say that people aren't digging these songs because it doesn't sound exactly like the first release. personally, i wasn't expecting them to replicate attqm, but i was expecting something of equal quality, and i think that's a fair (though personal) distinction to make. for the record, i thought neon bible was a lot different from and a lot better than funeral. i also thought room on fire fell short, but whatever. the point is, in the wake of good debuts it's natural for the sound to change, but it's also fair to expect that the quality will remain the same. radiohead is a great example of a band that succeeded at this. wolf parade (or interpol), maybe not so much. it's a personal judgment, and i think it's lower quality work. no harm, no foul.
not sure what this means, but it seems like a supreme court case could be pretty 'influential'.
i've listened to these songs at least 10 times each. i don't know what you think i should find there that i haven't. it's not like i hate at mount zoomer, i love soldier's grin and an animal in your care. it's cool that you like the songs. i really wanted to, but i don't.
2 live crew's as nasty/clean as they wanna be went to the supreme court TWICE
or straight outta compton, or 2 live crew's as nasty as they wanna be, an album that was addressed by the supreme court for not one but two separate issues???
how is achtung baby more influential than nevermind? or even the chronic? that's a serious question. i'm not old enough to remember achtung baby.
does anyone else have the feeling they would really like this band if it wasn't for the singer/lyrics?
i guess we just don't see it the same. i thought the songs were too long and boring, and the instruments sounded silly. most people i know loved attqm because almost every song was concise, unique, and they all kind of went for it, whatever 'it' might have been. in comparison, these feel average. so in that respect, it's hard for me to judge them outside of attqm's shadow. handsome furs and sunset rubdown are better entities on their own, and that's the direction i'd rather see them taking if it means more creative music.
love this record, good for springtime
you might want to check out the scifi channel wizard of oz reboot called tin man. she managed to not pull it off, scene after laughable scene.
better than the letterman performance. i wonder what goes through m. ward's head the whole time? he's probably thinking about his free bud light golden wheat.
jeez kids, calm down. the song is catchy. it's been in my head for two days now. m. ward is talented, and zooey deschanel is definitely fascinating....but not in a good way. how is she popular? i can't figure it out. she can't act very well, she can't sing very well, she is not a great performer, and she has all the grace of a small child/popsicle stick. her hypnotizing stepford act must be pretty powerful. look deep into her vacant stare...
except that she & him is not a big f-ing deal
by that i mean she is more or less talentless and inexplicably popular. also, i meant sarah palin, not george w. bush.
zooey deschanel is the george w. bush of indie music
yeah i know...is it her stepford vibe? or maybe the way she moves like a marionette? is it her weird, husky voice? her awesome lip-syncing? wait, i know! it's her vacant stare. see 2:17. i've been a huge fan ever since her amazing performance in Tin Man. Awesome.
