I personally really enjoy the political posts. When a crazy person talks about an "OLIGARH," I want to discuss it with other monsters.
Yeah, that page where he explains the videogum inside jokes is the best. It's like the "On the Origin of Species" of 2009. The species being monsters. If videogum was all fantasy footballgum, Werttrew and Gabe would totally be the top 2 picks.
I've had similar concerns, but I think our critical discretion is safe. For example, we can all appreciate most of the "Natalie Raps" video, but we'll always recognize that the random Andy Samberg viking bit within it is super lame.
The tiny hands are indeed brilliant. Reminds me of Mr. Show's Titannica sketch.
I am so glad that other monsters are aware of the existence of Delilah. I can't believe she is an actual human being and that there are other actual human beings who listen to her show on a regular basis.
Please, it's MANgum not MAGnum. Because if anybody deserves to have their videogum name spelled correctly, it's assholes who bait people with an avatar of some woman mauled by a chimp.
Sorry. That was supposed to be a reply to my own comment about the Wonder Showzen reference above. It's out of context and unfunny down here. Not that it was ever funny to begin with. I hate myself.
It's probably because I'm a racist and can't understand black people's crazy jive speech.
One of my favorite Wondy Showzy moments. I could never tell if he was saying "GOD'S RACIST! or"THAT'S RACIST!" though.
Loving the reference to O'dell. The tip just got me. Never gets old.
Sorry, wildcard. I'm 51 minutes of fail behind you. Can I save face by replaying the "Humour through repetition" bit?
I know you monsters are all in like, but she's already spoken for.
Hey now, let's show a bit of respect for the original 1967-68 Prisoner. I don't have cable so I haven't seen this remake, but you know how Lost is the poor man's Twin Peaks? Well Twin Peaks was the poor man's The Prisoner (again, I'm talking about the original). So dismissing The Prisoner because it's too similar to Lost is like dismissing Radiohead because they're too similar to Coldplay. You gotta recognize who's ripping off who. Are there any sci-fi nerd monsters out there that can back me up on this?
Yeah, I'm from St. Louis so I'm way out of my element here, but I always thought "guido" was a racial slur. Not N-word level slur, but certainly not something I'd ever expect to hear from an MTV voiceover guy. I blame Carlos Mencia.
Oh dear, that "Sleepaway Camp" comparison is spot on. Horrifying. For those of you that haven't seen the film, just google image search the title. The third result will show you the goods.
My bad. I'm a dummy. Of course PHHD has existed since Halloween 2006, as the main video of this post is from November 2006. Still, why have you eluded us for so very long, PHHD?
Happy Jack Valentine is extraordinary! Notice that the description for Christmas Edition, which is from January 2007, reads: "He's back - not in the graveyard, but in a festive setting. Here's the pumpkin dance as recently aired on the KXVO 10:00 News in Omaha!" That seems to suggest that Pumpkin Head Halloween Dance appeared on KXVO as far back as Halloween 2006! Can anyone confirm? And if so, why didn't you tell us about this sooner? PHHD has existed for three years and I didn't know? That's like if somebody saw The Departed in 2006 but kept it to themselves and waited until now to release it to the world. Shame on you, loyal KXVO viewer!
Pushing Your Arms Out Against A Door Frame Until They Feel Like They're Floating 2: Having Someone Hold Your Arms Up While Your Head Hangs Down And Then Slowly Let Your Arms Down So They Feel Like They're Going Through The Floor It's got a nice ring to it, no?
Harmony Korine and fights should forever be associated with "Barfunk." For anybody that hasn't watched his '95 Letterman interview, you should do yourself a favor and watch it now. The fight talk and Barfunk glory is around the 1 minute mark. I'm an internet cripple so I really hope that link works.
It's such an easy argument to make because it's the right one. I have compassion for racists, but by no means should I tolerate their bigotry or think it's "hilarious." I know that sounds self-righteous and trite, but whatever. Some values merit absolutes.
Yeah man, definitely meant bollocks not bullocks. Definitely an ugly American. Next time I will remember to review my Sex Pistols discography before commenting.
Sure, it was a lame line. But it was better than King Ralph. In other news, TMZ is reporting that Jenny Slate is being replaced by Karl Pilkington.
Who upvoted this? I agree that this common "racism is a product of their time" argument is bullocks. How the hell would there ever be progress if that was acceptable? I'm sure you love them and all, but I don't care where or when you grandparents grew up; if somebody doesn't recognize that racism is for dingleberries, they're not a product of their time, they're just assholes.
Disagreement. A big part of what makes videogum brilliant is that Gabe calls out mediocrity. I think that deep down, we all know that episode of SNL was totally forgettable. The rational folks here don't think Jenny Slate sucks or anything. We just think that episode was poor and that it's strange that Gabe would think otherwise, regardless of his rooting interests.
And let's not forget that Ricky has done some excellent film reviews himself
Violet A., I would like to point out that my Pilkington avatar significantly preceded yours, you knobhead (I hope you know I'm obviously kidding. There is plenty of room around here for 2 bald little Manc twats. Now if there are 2 lanky goggle-eyed freaks from Bristol, we may run out of space).
Agreed. I can't believe there isn't an official Videogum "Karl Pilkington Promise" yet. For those of you who devoured all the podcasts and are craving more, Pilkipedia has loads of the old XFM radio show and they're just as brilliant. And free.
Do you guys ever wonder how your boyfriend theindividual stumbles onto videogum? I mean it totally makes sense that he would go stir shit up on a moveon.org message board or something, but how does your boyfriend find videogum? Is there a link on jeffdunham.com?
Why did I select these words? Because life is precious and God and the Bible. This is why I get frustrated when people like Keith Olbermann and Michael Moore are dismissed as being just as worthless as people like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh. Olbermann and Moore may be one-sided, but at least they're somewhat logical and rational.
I love and respect Gabe, but he is out of line here. The comments today restore my faith in the videogum community. I just wish you guys would have shown similar bravado when Lindsay was trying to claim that "How I Met Your Mother" was a decent show.
