The Weeknd – “Enemy”
First of all, this new Weeknd song appropriates the Smiths’ “Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want” in lyric and in sample. And at the very least we can all agree that, of all the Moz-isms for Abel to cite in his seedy vignettes, this one is a pretty snug fit. “Enemy” comes as a bonus song via the Weeknd’s Twitter/YouTube, and is unrelated to his plan to release a remastered compilation of his three scene-setting 2011 mixtapes, each with its own new song. (That set’s called Trilogy, out 11/13 via Universal/Republic; new track info below.) Beyond the Smiths nod, “Enemy” offers some relatively sparse and crisp production, allowing focus to stay on Tesfaye’s voice as it does its vulnerable lothario thing front and center. The operative phrase is “Girl I’m just trying to make you ____ without a word,” and you may fill in the blank with high, numb, sleep, or cum. Like you do. Hear it:
The Weeknd’s Trilogy is out 11/13 via Universal/Republic. Its bonus track info: House Of Balloons‘ add-on is called “Twenty Eight,” Echoes Of Silence offers “‘Til Dawn (Here Comes The Sun),” and Thursday‘s cut is titled “Valerie.” The set also features a new video for the Drake-featuring song “The Zone.” We’ll bring you all of it, probably at 4AM again. Like you do.
