This massive medley [Black Eyes Peas + Gwen Stefani Feat. Eve + Los Lonely Boys + Maroon 5 + Franz Ferdinand] … will end with everyone playing together in what used to be called a jam, but what executive producer Ken Ehrlich says, with a chuckle, the kids now refer to as a mashup.

i think they pulled it off. A-

  2. Franz Ferdinand…

If you listened really carefully you could hear 200,000 hipsters giving up. it was monumental.

  3. xtina  |   Posted on Feb 13th, 2005

That opening was like a bad episode of Kids Incorporated.

  4. Holy jumpin’ of the shark.

  5. it sounded like the sound of 100,000 copies of the Darts of Pleasure EP (purchased in January 03 of course) hitting the wall at the same time. maybe Los Lonely Boys will cover ‘Michael’ on their next EP..

Fathers be good to your daughters!!!

  9. Gwen stefani is hot, when did she get so hot.

  10. calliwell  |   Posted on Feb 13th, 2005

Screw that, it’s when I looked to my screen and saw Scott Weiland belting “Across the Universe” that had me. What the fuck is going on?! Was I on drugs?!

  11. Julia  |   Posted on Feb 13th, 2005

God, the ending to that was awfull.

  12. kylie  |   Posted on Feb 14th, 2005

why can’t people just lol at this and get over it?! it’s not the end of the world, it doesn’t mean franz sold out, it just means they thought it was a funny idea to play on stage with the likes of maroon 5 and the black eyed peas, and boy were they right! i mean, christ, hipsters, grow up! if your tastes in music are that fragile that national popularity forces you to hate them, grow up. get over yourself and laugh. it was funny. franz screaming “take me out” overtop a mix of “let’s get it started” and “this love” is just funny.

    woo!!

    go kylie…so right.

    WE’LL MAKE MILLIONS!!!

The opening “mash-up” worked a lot better than that godawful “Across the Universe” tsunami thing. I’m going to hell for saying it, but it was just ear-bleedingly terrible. Had these people not rehearsed in the same room?

Jack White: please shave the caterstache so I can continue loving you. Thanks. And Go Loretta!

The jam or “mashup” or whatevs kinda sucked at the end there. But overall a good show.

Note to hipsters: The only people who call other people sell outs are poor people.

  16. that was fun. i mean, kind of lame, especially since the black eyed peas won for “best rap group” for “lets get retarded” (or started, or whatever). i just was tickled at the idea that this exec thought a ‘mashup’ was a new idea, or so he seemed to say.

  17. Nothing new in a mash up… and as the Clash said in 1979…

Everybody smash up your seats and rock to this
    Brand new beat
This here music mash up the nation
This here music cause a sensation
Tell your ma, tell your pa everythingâ??s gonna be all right
Canâ??t you feel it? donâ??t ignore it
    Gonna be arl-right

enough with the ray charles awards, too. did anyone ever listen to that record anyhow?

also, scott weiland: david bowie, jr? discuss…

also, re: the best albums of the year etc….

i finally got kanye’s record recently and while there are good tracks on it, i wouldn’t say it’s one of the best rap albums i’ve ever heard. “jesus walks” gets me though. what an amazing, inspiring song…

anyhow, i’m really glad velvet revolver got a grammy for ‘slither’. their record isn’t 100% perfect but they are definitely the best hard rock act around these days.

green day deserve all the success in the world. why? because they don’t get no respect! people have always undermined green day as just slacker teenagers, and as the earliest post said, their songs from ’95 are still in heavy rotation. i really think ‘american idiot’ is a brilliant album, so i’m thrilled they’re moving up the chain of respect.

franz ferdinand rock out and are not sell-outs. if they sold out, they’d be hawking cheesy products and kissing carson daly’s ass. they do their thang and they sound excellent. FF is by far my favorite album of ’04 so i’m glad to see the industry at least recognize talent when they hear it, even though they wind up praising the norah jones of the world. man, i hate norah jones!

jamie foxx: we get it. you were brilliant as ray. stop begging for the oscar votes!!

  21. Zhee  |   Posted on Feb 14th, 2005

Damn it all, no one is talking about Brit-Brit winning her first Grammy.

Damn you people! Bitch has got some street cred now.

  22. zheehater  |   Posted on Feb 14th, 2005

shut up, zhee! come out of the closet already. brit-brit? c’mon, get real…

go put on your hot pants and glitter and leave this board alone…

  23. zheehater'smom  |   Posted on Feb 14th, 2005

look at me everyone, I’m a cheap WHORE

  24. i know its a train wreck, but i GOTSTA see that Beatles cover with tim mcgraw and slash! sheesh! anybody got it?

  25. c.b.  |   Posted on Feb 14th, 2005

jamie foxxxxx is so damn annoying, as is usher. he’s such a show boater! glad to see that usher didn’t win song or album of the year…and i wonder how kanye felt losing to maroon 5? what about that horrible marc anthony and j.lo performance?

  26. eric  |   Posted on Feb 14th, 2005

i just wanna know where the hell weird al is…
“penis walks” would be an amazing bit of satire. kanye west is completely overrated and needs something (like a weird al cover) to ground him a little bit. angel wings? coffins? white suits? gimme a break. i get the feeling he’s genuine, but at the same time, this whole new era of moral relativism and neo-christian poppycock is really over the top.

  27. Why has no one mentioned the god awful JLO Marc Anthony deut? I was waiting for the Bee Guy to run out becuase it looked like a total Spanish soap opera or a bad 80s video shot in a cheesy holiday inn.

  28. whigsboy  |   Posted on Feb 14th, 2005

I saw very little. What I did see was that disturbing J Lo/Mr. J Lo duet en espanol. Man is she terrible. She’s the freaking latina Kathy Lee Gifford and he’s the hispanic skeletor.

Off topic – Perhaps everybody has already heard it, but, just in case, you can hear the new Doves album on NME – http://www.nme.com/features/111390.htm.

  29. zhee  |   Posted on Feb 14th, 2005

I loved J-LO and Marc Anthony’s performance – it was beautiful. I don’t understand French very well, but the emotions were clear. I can’t wait for J-lo’s album to come out; I dance to “get right” every morning while I’m putting on my sparkly suspenders.

  30. zheehater'smom  |   Posted on Feb 14th, 2005

I also loved the performance. Music just doesn’t sound the same when your legs aren’t near your ears, and when a random trucker’s grunts aren’t emanating as ambient noise.

    But it still sounded nice.

  31. I have a rather humorous commentary on the grammy’s last night. Check it out on my homepage link

  32. zhee.. french?! you’re joking, right? RIGHT?!

  33. carolina  |   Posted on Feb 14th, 2005

I know I’m going to get shit for this but I have to say that Neil Diamond and company with that remix of “Sweet home Alabama” fucking rocked. I was feeling it I was like “get me a PBR the south has Risen again” Na just kidding. Melissa and Joss were incredible in the tribute to Janis Joplin!! And Franz Fernindad didn’t sell out that band is great live!!! I agree with everyone they deserve it and a little exposure doesn’t hurt anyone hey fuck we all have to eat right? Good for Green Day they deserve that award and I agree they should have one Album of the year! I still think that if Franz Fernindad was competing against U2 they would have one I mean U2 gave them props!

P.S. Thank you for saying that Jamie Foxx was over exposed the dam man swears he’s Ray Charles I’m surprised he didn’t get up and accept Rays grammys. For that he should just not win the Oscar. And yeah Jlo and Marc the Zombie duet was cheesey!!!!

  34. Im a bitch  |   Posted on Feb 14th, 2005

Jlo should not ever sing live. Her husband should never show his face in public. They should just move to an island and fall off the face of the earth. haha

  35. The J-lo thing was terrible! Britney Spears sounds better live than that. did anyone else think that Green Day may have performed with a backing track? Somehthing seemed off. Espcially since the voice distortion was still present in the song. I dunno they still rocked. I though Alicia Keys was amazing. Never been a big fan of hers but she sounded great.I thought the big “mash-up” was really lame. just let Franz Ferdinand and Gwen perform seperately. The other acts just blew. Maroon 5 is god awful live.

  36. mike  |   Posted on Feb 14th, 2005

i thought i saw amy poehler doing another michael jackson impression, and i thought “hey hey HEY that’s out of place at the grammys”….then i realized it was actually jack white.

    that’s embarassing.

  37. Don’t my massive post regarding the best Mash-Ups currently available on the net (http://djmonstermo.blogspot.com/).

  38. BeavisOnCrack  |   Posted on Feb 15th, 2005

AJ, I read where the Grammys were not going to allow ANY form of back up tracks this year, which I thought for sure would warrant JLo to drop out at the last minute.

  39. Well when J-lo sang it definitely showed. She’s terrible. Britney honestly seings better than her!

  40. Nicole  |   Posted on Apr 11th, 2005

YEAH GO GREEN DAY!!! Billie Joe said it the best “Rock N Roll can be dangerous and fun at the same time”. Could not have put it better myself!!!
