Kanye West - Yeezus

Kanye West has confirmed the artwork for his forthcoming Yeezus. That’s what it looks like above, a clear jewel case with a piece of red tape on it — i.e., “no cover, booklet, just a sticker on the reverse of the package with the track list,” as DJ Semtex first revealed earlier today. If you hover over the artwork on kanyewest.com, you can hear a 13-second preview of a new song “Bound” that samples Brenda Lee.

Yeezus is out 6/18 on Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam and apparently there will not be a pre-order.

  1. I guess Kanye is having his whole Mos Def “True Magic” moment.

  2. Or his System of a Down moment.

  4. So…uh…how will the vinyl for this look?

  5. I’m sorry, but this is total shit.

  6. In the spirit of piling on, add Suede and Glassjaw to the list of people who have already done this clear jewel case thing.

  7. i actually like this better than the previous “molten gold” cover

  8. Great, this new Kanye album is gonna blend in with all the burnt cds in clear jewel cases in my car. I’ll get to listen to it once and then never find it again.

    • On one of the images of the cover, it said “Graffiti This” over the image, so you’re totally allowed to write “praise Yeezus” in big red sharpie on top of the CD.

    • Ya know, a pack of Sharpies is like, $3 at Wal-Mart.

      • There was a time in my life when I quit labeling my burnt cds. Something about being a free spirit, allowing the universe to choose something for me to listen to.

Then I grew up and that habit became tedious. I started labeling things, but there’s a ton of mixes I made at 3am whilst drunk that make very little sense, so instead of labeling those I just let them float around and do as they wish.

  9. As mentioned, its already been done, a lot. Richard D. James has some variation of it as AFX/Aphex Twin several times. It was so hard to tell which side was which on the AB3 re-release that you would sometimes put the CD in upside down.

  10. Totally just dropped a huge gif load all over this comment section’s face.

  11. I like the “Just listen to the music.” kind of message, but I think I’ll give the last Strokes album the nod, in this minimalist respect. At least with that one I could pretend that I was listening to a big ol’ tape reel.

  12. Going with the “please add grafitti” Def Jam announcement http://yeezygraffiti.com/
