Ellery James Roberts, former frontman of now-defunct Manchester band WU LYF, has released solo material via Tumblr. According to one post, the song “Kerou’s Lament” was “scripted/produced & sang lonesome in London spring time” and features uncleared samples of Clams Casino, Daniel Pinchbeck, and Lil B, who is really the perfect person to sample when you’re feeling down in the dumps. Don’t worry, Ellery. Lil B loves you. – Lil B. Check the sweet, heartstring-tugging track below.

  1. This is pretty good, but between this and Los Porcos, I think it’s safe to say WU LYF was greater than the sum of it’s parts, and hopefully they’ll realize that and get back together. This is definitely in the right vein, but it’s missing those skyscraping post rock guitars and insistent drum beats.

  2. Sample of my band CRCV “Mother”(cover Pink Floyd) too.

  3. This kind of sounds like Bruce Springsteen singing on top of that last song Bon Iver did with the keyboards and all.

That is to say, it’s awesome.
