Though there has never been an official statement, L.A. rock band (and Smell mainstays) Abe Vigoda are no more. Fortunately Juan Velazquez has been working on a new band called Roses that’s been gaining attention locally, and soon they will release their debut EP, Dreamlover. Below you can listen to its opener, “Florence Girls,” which covers a bent guitar riff with a romantic new-wave sheen. Listen below.

Dreamlover is out 8/5 via Group Tightener.

  1. Wow, I was literally just wondering what the hell has become of Abe Vigoda, spinning Skeleton and Kid City all week. They were one of my favorite bands of the past decade. I’m wrecked to hear that they’re apparently no more, and this is very very nice to have at least… but I’ll miss Abe Vigoda.

  2. I remember an early version of this song from their soundcloud a few months ago (via internet stalking). Miss Abe Vigoda a lot but the Roses tunes are pretty good.
