Puro Instinct – “Tell Me”

Puro Instinct – “Tell Me”

The last time we heard from sister duo Puro Instinct, they had teamed with Ariel Pink, lending their shimmering ’80s sensibilities to an awesome Rexy cover. They gave us a couple reminders of the dreamy immensity they are capable of last year with “W.Y.L” and “Lake Cuomo,” but they have been relatively quite since their excellent 2011 debut, Headbangers In Ecstasy. Today, they are back to announce their sophomore LP, Autodrama, in tandem with the lead single, “Tell Me.”

The album pays homage to growing up in Hollywood looking for the real amid the surreality of the glitz and glamour, and it’s also a return to roots, as the duo recorded their first demo in Tinseltown with borrowed instruments. “Tell Me” is a straightforward ’80s romp in which Piper Kaplan’s feathery vocals deliver her requirements to her partner. Piper opens by repeating, “Tell me who you are” before Skylar’s trembling guitar and gleaming synths join and she lists the rewards for being forthcoming with her. It’s a fun bit of avant-pop that we’ve come to expect from the duo, and an assured, confident return to form. Check it out along with album details below.
