Following up the big news yesterday that Thom Yorke changed the name of his side-project from ???? to Atoms For Peace (in other news, reports suggest he allegedly sneezed yesterday! Apparently it was transcendent.), we have something more tangible to bring to you today by way of some new material the primary Atomhead played at that “low key solo thing” in benefit for the Green Party last night. It was located at the Cambridge Corn Exchange, which is a great name for a music venue/corn hall. Speaking of great names: “The Daily Mail” (piano jam), “Mouse Dog Bird” (pretty acoustic tune with a loop supplying backing vocals), and “Give Up The Ghost” (ethereal acoustic tune with another loop) are the new jams he played last night, and they’re here for you to memorize in time for Coachella.

Great stuff. Thanks!
Lookin’ good, Thom.
thank you so much for this, i love thom yorke, i love stereogum.
i live 10 minutes from the Corn Exchange, but couldn’t get my hands on tickets. this has gone a little way to making it up. thanks.
Praise be to Thom.
I was lucky enough to get a ticket, Thom talked a lot (for him!) this time round too.. ‘I froze up’, an older track, was particularly incredible I thought..
also, some snaps: http://www.flickr.com/photos/narsconcepts/sets/72157623514185558/
that was fantastic. I wonder if this is new Thom, or new RH
Mouse dog bird is beautiful.
with a radiohead lp presumably out by the end of the year, i too wonder if any of these (plus ‘lotus flower’) are new RH or just ???? (not quite ready to say atoms for peace yet).
remember how long the ‘in rainbows’ tracks were played live before that album’s release in ’07?
These new songs are just skeletal-versions of them. I’m sure the guys are working on making them sound incredible for the new album. But on the other hand, I could be wrong and these new songs are just little gems to tease us while they prepare LP numero ocho.
I am normally a bit shy with these reply’s, but I felt the need to come out of the shell for a few quick mentions…
Firstly the songs are amazing! I was hoping to find a hater or two already, but they must be busy hating elsewhere at the moment.
Let these three songs be evidence as to the genius of Thom Yorke. I recall all the negative comments chastising his efforts without the band, and going solo, how he’s preachy green, etc. But I have to laugh as I sit here pondering, as to why after years of enjoying everything that is Radiohea – Why am I still amazed at how they can release something new, that makes me step away from the ledge if only for a minute or two, to calmly tell myself things are not really that bad.
The personal irony here is Radiohead has yet to play live in front of their biggest fan. Hopefully before I leave this earth, that will no longer be valid.
I should also mention big ups, kudos, and like that to Stereogum. New layout is dope y’all. Picking up a Wharehouse Gray kinda vibe, and I am liking it. And a big shout out to bringing back the Heavy Rotation.
I’m out.
And because I am feeling generous…
