Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin wrote “FOL” to soundtrack a spot for Hyundai’s Genesis Coupe. Does anyone remember when Smashing Pumpkins were cool?
Yes. Fortunately that has no bearing on the good music they are still making.
you don’t even have to remember that far back to remember when he went all bonkers about how this sort of thing was crass commercialism and undermined his blabbitty bla:

Corgan’s shiny bald head is getting too much sun.
I know Cadillac went with all alt-rock and tapped Hum for a commercial, so its nit out of the question But Hyundai? Was Kia too high class for you?
Bands have to make money some how these days, more power to em……
yeah, but bands WITHOUT money should have the chance. unless billy spent all his royalties on turtle wax for his head.
have the chance who? as if there is a shortage of bands getting their songs played in car commercials
“FOL” cool name of new song!!! waiting!!!!!
I, as an actual fan since Gish can say that I used to meditate and cry in my bed about the content of the pumpkins, but now OBVIOUSLY realize unfortunately – that the pumpkins are no longer such. The Smashing Pumpkins have fallen from grace, sad to say folks, but the music SUCKS.
how dare you. The pumpkins are amazing and are still cool. show some respect :)
Just had a preview of the ad yesterday – Corgan’s version is very Pumpkininny. There’s also a Yo-Yo Ma scored version of the commercial. The spots end with a link to a site where you can make your own cut of “The Epic Lap” – not sure if you can use your own music though…
The song is really good, their best stuff in a long time!
