Last year we saw David Gahan solo and then this past January with frYars, but he’s always made most sense fronting Depeche Mode, which is where you’ll find him in this clip. The band’s 12th studio album Sounds Of The Universe, the first since 2005′s Playing The Angel, is out in April, and DM debuted the 13-track collection’s first single, the Martin Gore-penned “Wrong,” over the weekend (2/21) at Germany’s Echo Awards. It sounds like Depeche Mode. While listening, you can also take a look at what Sounds Of The Universe looks like. You’ll dance to anything:

Sounds Of The Universe is out 4/17 in Germay, 4/20 internationally, and 4/21 in the US via Mute/EMI. This is how it’s packaged:

You can get more info about it at the band’s website. They plan to support it with Tour Of The Universe. So far North American cities (and dates) are listed, but no venues. More info when we have it.

I don’t think Depeche Mode will ever make anything bad. This looks to be a totally valid release and I’m going to see them on tour this time.

mixed on this song, hmmm, as a fan since 82 i haven’t been so thrilled with anything they have done since songs of faith and devotion… and really thought all the hoopla over the last album was a bit ridiculous. it’s all been a hit and miss affair for so long, it is hard to judge at this point. martin sounds in fine voice again, which is nice to hear… getting tired of the choral singer gone wrong. no pun intended on that last one. it would be nice if alan wilder could just get back with them for one album… i think that would help matters.
