Tweedy and the gang decided to class themselves up for The Tonight Show last night, dusting off the Nudie Suits they debuted at Lollapalooza last year. The band was making good use of an off-night in between a trio of sold-out shows at the Wiltern, and took the late night opportunity to scold America’s children with Wilco (The Album)’s “You Never Know.” Also, CoCo wants a Wilco suit.

    Wilco is awesome

    Conan is the man

  3. 4 guitars and a bass + terribly boring song = i felt like i just watched an eagles concert on vh1

    • JDR  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2009 0

Yea, since when did Wilco become an 8 piece? Who is that quiet looking guy in black with the Les Paul??? Also, to point out the refrains on Wilco’s newest singles/songs on the tv/radio “Wilco will love you, baby” and “I don’t care anymore”. The jokes on us guys!

      • Rob  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2009 0

Pretty sure the guy with the black Les Paul is in Conan’s band. I assume the other guy playing acoustic won an audience participation contest before the show.

Are those all of Mike Mills suits from REM’s Monster tour?

  4. JDR  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2009 0

    # % and @ ARE pretty fun openers, but I personally don’t care for ^. :b

  5. Freakin REDNECKS, they’re everyone. I’m moving out of the US cos of bands like these. Seriously.

  6. it’s out on Tuesday snitches … that pre-order better arrive on time … nothing worse than having already paid for something and then not having it on release day

I like this song, but I have a hard time believing Tweedy actually believes what he is saying, considering how seriously he seems to take everything

  7. tweedpants  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2009 0

is this an intentional rip-off of My Sweet Lord?

  8. I thought George Harrison died?

  9. this song is great, and the new album is a grower… i enjoy it, one wing is the jam

  10. cmon people, we are in the 21. century. listen to ANIMAL COLLECTIVE and leave these HILLBILLIES in the past forever

  11. cpb  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2009 0

Hillbillies? Rednecks? Are you guys serious? a) they’re from Chicago and b) have you listened to the soundscapes on A Ghost Is Born or Yankee Hotel Foxtrot? Decidedly un-country. Sky Blue Sky was the closest they’d been to country in 10 years, and that was not even close to “hillbilly musak.” Besides, NELS Freaking CLINE is their lead guitarist–he’s a jazz GOD. Also, the suits are a joke, I hope you realize that. Wilco has an odd sense of humor (Have you seen this album cover?)

Wilco is one of the most forward thinking bands in the business. Someone brought up Animal Collective, which is a totally different beast–forward thinking as well, yes, but a completely different band.

    Hillbillies…Jeez, you people are ridiculous.

cmon people, we are in the 21. century. listen to ANIMAL COLLECTIVE and leave these HILLBILLIES in the past forever

HA HA HA I will add Animal Collective to the steaming pile that is Crystal Castles, Dean Deacon and that Jay Retard dung.

WILCO will love ya baby !

  13. Is this Dewey Cox’s new single?
    sorry jeff…

  14. please reinsert your heads up the collective asses of whatever shitty animal band you all love this week. these hillbillies from the past will continue to make history while you’re there.

Rar rar rar, I’m a troll!! You can only listen to one kind of music, the rest are stupid!! Rar rar! Trollness trollness? While a wide taste for different variations of music is not 21 century ideals, reducing strangers to ignorant stereotypes is!! Rar! I’m a troll?

The more appropriate attire for Tweedy on a tour supporting this album would be a coldplay tshirt and some nice, comfy, dockers. And the dockers would have the pockets stuffed with the dollars you morons paid for the last three albums he’s mailed in.

  17. Drew  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2009 0

The man with the Les Paul is Labamba from Conan’s band and the other guy I’m pretty sure is Will Sheff from Okkervil River, who is opening for Wilco tonight.
This band rules and everyone should just get over their Wilco backlash and commend them for being fantastic musicians and songwriters who are amazing live and are very supportive of the new bands all you hipsters claim have taken over the mantel from Wilco. Jealously does not suit you Wilco haters!

  18. Tweedy isn’t from Chicago. He’s a transplant, originally from Belleville Illinois, which is kind of a hick town.

  19. a DOUBLE NECK guitar, I can’t believe how campy this is. We are not in the 80s

  20. faas  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2009 0

jeff’s lookin a litt’e mugshot phil spector in that photo. ooohie!

  21. EAB  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2009 0

Good performance but they should’ve played “Bull Black Nova.”

  22. @ EAB Hear! Hear! Bull Black Nova is epic, it’s Kicking Television 2.0 loooooovvve that song and love Wilco, but have to admit, this song/performance was a sleeper.

  23. Big Bang of Pop  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2009 0

“Jazz is about the moment you’re in. Being modern is not about the future it’s about the present…”

  24. Frankie Lee  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2009 0

I love Wilco so I guess that makes me a hillbilly. Oh well. Why are you guys letting these simple folk get to you? If they’re too cool to dig Wilco it’s their problem, let ‘em move, who cares? (And really? Changing residences because of “bands like this”?). Anyway, love the new album, and I know I’m probably in the minority, but the bedazzled suits too. All that said, this is my least favorite song on the album. The only thing that saves the studio version is the Harrison-like slide. You’d think with the 4 guitars they had on stage, one of them could’ve played it. Where’s Jay Bennett when you need him? …Oh. (Too soon?)

  25. Chris  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2009 0

haven’t liked wilco since YHF really. ghost is born had 3 good tunes and sky blue sky was a bore.

  26. Mike  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2009 0

That 7/23 date is actually Detroit Lakes, MN (the land of 10,000 lakes-thus the festival name) not Michigan.

  27. Leo  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2009 0

I like Jack White’s wearing of that outfit better.

  28. Aaron  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2009 0

    Yawn. What happened to Wilco?
Boring Eagles tribute band and stealing riffs from “My Sweet Lord”. WHY NELS?!

  29. Gus  |   Posted on Jun 25th, 2009 0

Country or not, that was boring. Way too many strings (are two 12 string guitars, and 2 more acoustics necessary?) and this just reeks of a talented band that have written some boring songs. I’ll stick with Yankee Hotel.

  30. Matt  |   Posted on Jun 26th, 2009 0

    Two words- womens hair.
    Two more- song sucks.

  31. gabe  |   Posted on Jun 27th, 2009 0

4 guitars, 1 bass, 2 keyboards, drums. wtf these guys are trying way too hard to make up for shitty music.

  32. ty  |   Posted on Jun 29th, 2009 0

yeah, cause animal collective could have totally gotten a record deal if yhf had never been made…..

  33. +++---  |   Posted on Jun 29th, 2009 0

yankee hotel foxtrot was not groundbreaking or even experimental. adding stale background noise in the hopes of polishing tweedys songturds into something meaningful is not artistic experimentation. wilco has been extremely boring and pointless for a very long time.

i would bet jeffs nifty red pajamas that the three people who voted thumbs down to my comment are:
      a) from the midwest.
      b) also fans of sufjan stevens.

      barf on you douchebags.

  34. GA  |   Posted on Jun 30th, 2009 0

Finally just saw this. I have tried SO HARD to like them, I give up. I just do not see/hear it. I guess there’s alot of cerebral stuff to like, and I like cerebral, but there has to be something there viscerally for me to like. Where is the CHARISMA? This bores me and I hate hearing their name in those ‘Great American Band’ arguments and discussions. Bleh!

  35. Finally found a copy of Unlikely Japan. Really amazing how different it was at that time!
