The melancholic twee minimalists of best new act the xx perfectly set the stage for the intimate, icy teen love depicted in this Marcus Söderlund-directed video for “VCR.” The romantically downcast protagonists scribble secret messages on walls then kick their feet through said walls, pine, make out, set fires. The latter act turns a previously black and white world into some sort of colorful office-building jungle (complete with tiny monkey). While they sleep it off.
You’d want a different video for the Matthew Dear remix of the song:

Have to agree. I really like the Florence cover/remix thing, but this and the album, well, what he said.
The CD is amazing! If you haven’t heard it check it out even if its not cool to catch it after everybody else. Who cares what’s cool or not? As far as I’m concerned it’s solid. Beautiful minmalism. And the blogs (and pitchfork) point to good music much of the time. See also- Animal Collective, The Antlers, Burial, etc.

Sounds as if the xx and Glas Vegas were jammin’ in studios next to each other, broke down the wall between them in the style of Aerosmith vs Run DMC, and started fighting. The xx then succesfullly kill the drummer and singer of Glas Vegas, leaving the remaining survivors and the xx standing victorious with a beautiful, mellow tune.
