Looking forward to I Will Be. Was tempted to vote for Dum Dum Girls as Best New Act in the Gummy Awards but I felt like I hadn't heard enough to commit to that. Excited to hear more Pearl Harbor in the new year too.
If hip-hop has taught us anything, it's that comebacks are best when done via music.
Prior to all of this, the only time I'd ever read the name Harry Partch was in relation to The Stooges. Iggy Pop listened to Partch while recording Raw Power. Useless fun fact!
Damn, I want to see this, too. There's no US or UK equivalent to Gainsbourg. Among the things I hope to see in this film are how he tricked France Gall into singing dirty songs, how his song submission for the Eurovision Song Contest was rejected by France but later won for Luxembourg and his duet with Charlotte about incest.
Between this song and 'Love Goon' I'm becoming more and more drawn to this band. Maybe I'm crazy, but I swear I hear a bit of the Bulgarian Women's Choir in this.
The bass line in this song reminds me a lot of Silver Apples' "Program". It's less noticeable in this clip than it is on the album. Embryonic is superb though. I'm really tempted to splurge for that furry packaging.
I'm still holding out for a 'squirrel' revival.
At first I thought this was just an elaborate and hilarious way to promote Freelance Whales (a band I was already sold on), but I'll definitely check out a few other names on this list.
I liked that. Reminds me of that thing Blender used to do where they gave a band some money and got photos of them spending it. The most memorable involved The Flaming Lips, a kiddie pool, some strippers and Pepto Bismol.
Not really liking the artwork, although the "Part of Mary-Louise Parker's Face" photo made them a lot more interesting being blurred in the background.
