His self ratings were really spot on, but even a C- Vonnegut book is great.
Miss_merely is right, this is a pretty basic list if you're at all into literature. That said, there's a reason a lot of people love these books. Also Aristophanes is the most fucking overrated of ancient playwrights and Cat's Cradle is the best Vonnegut book.
Rhye and Alvvays need to put out new albums asap because their last ones have been on constant rotation for the the last year plus. Marry Me Archie and The Fall will be getting plays on my iPod for the rest of my life. I wasn't that into the new RAA album; the songs just didn't stick like the first two albums. That said, I will listen to anything their drummer is on. He really elevates that band from solid indie/folk rock to great. He's up there with the drummer of Cloud Nothings.
I've always loved the Mountain Goats but for whatever reason I only ever listened to their full lengths, and I'm just now realizing I have been missing out on some solid stuff. A Winged Victory For the Sullen is getting a download on name alone.
I was excited to go there tonight but Brandon Flowers had to go and cancel his damn tour.
Bonus points if anyone can rattle off some good Virginia Beach area bands and venues.
Hey everybody! This might be a little late into SUD but I'm about to go away for many months and I was hoping for some really obscure/unknown music to download before I leave civilization (and more importantly S'gum) behind. I've been around the block enough to know most of the must hear indie stuff so I'm hoping for some personal obsessions or regional/local favorites. And yes Bloc, I have all of Belle & Sebastion and the Wrens' music already.
Part of me didn't want to listen to this out of fear it was just a goofy fuck around session over basic beats and not good, but it ended up being both! Amen is the best freestyled sing-songy 9 minute hip hop track I've ever heard hands down.
Holy moly freaking sheesh, a Joanna Newsom album recorded by Steve Albini!!! How has noone commented on how incredible this pairing could be? Her typical sound seems completely out of Albini's wheelhouse and could lead to some really interesting stuff. Also this song sounds more like Fiona Apple than she normally does, but this is in no way a bad thing.
Oh shit, glad to see someone else is jamming that new White Reaper album because it is such a garage rock treat! I came to NYC for one night just to catch them with Twin Peaks a few months back and they did not disappoint. Pre-ordered the album as soon as I got in a cab.
Hannibal just won't quit with these amazing rap co-signs.
As a MN native this song is played at literally ever summer get together I've been to for years and it never gets old. Props to Tom for giving props to Lifter Puller.
Holy shit, Gaddis Williams. That's a post-modern deep cut. You seem like an interesting person Max.
Ooh La La is one of the greatest songs of all time (and the album is incredible to boot). Plus, Stay With Me is a great karaoke song.
This reminds me how good Old was. Also kinda surprised Raptor Jesus hasn't been here yet. This is about as true of a clam jam as they come.
I meant I wanted to hear some insane circumstance involving the KGB, the plague, and Alf that barred him from releasing it. "It wasn't good" is just boring.
I was hoping for a better explanation than "it wasn't good." Hope it leaks some time.
No way, but there were bands that were obviously aping those bands, and doing it pretty well. I don't think people were really trying to go for the Doors sound.
It seems like a better diss track than Drakes at the outset because it's more aggressive, but lyrically it's pretty subpar. I guess rap beefs just ain't what they used to be (RIP Jay-Z/Nas beef!)
Man, what happened. His new stuff is sounding really generic and lame. Innanetape And Down On My Luck were so, so, so promising.
