I honestly believe that videogum has made me a better, more well rounded person. I've read so many things, given weird shows a chance, found cool podcasts, found the courage to speak up and attempt to be more outgoing, hell I even lurker did the monster's fit club a few years ago over on mobfd and lost weight because of you guys. I don't really know what else to say at this point other than 'thank you'.
If it makes you feel any better they've just been interviewing team GB ppl and showing footage of the Olympic torch in space.....nothing too exciting yet.
I've been meaning to start The Good Wife!
It's sorta neat seeing all of these reports and remembering where I was and what exactly my life was like when they were originally posted. This was originally posted 2 weeks after my daughter's birth. Mr AC had just gone back to work and I was all alone with the baby and seriously freaking out about how drastically my life was changing. There was poop everywhere, still a lot of pain for me and a near constantly crying baby. She would take a thankfully long morning nap and I would get a cup of tea and catch up on videogum during the few minutes of silence. You all made me laugh during some tough times then as you had for several years before while I was suffering through grad school and then later as I got my first adult job and was terribly lonely and missing all of my grad school friends. You guys didn't realize it, but you've been my lunchtime companions since 2010, and you were keeping me company during my late nights at lab before that. I think it's strange that there are all of these ppl that I've never met and barely interacted with that I am going to miss so much. Seeing all the old faces (avatars?) commenting again is like catching up with old friends and it makes me really sad to think that I won't be surprised by a post from a long lost monster anymore. I guess I just wanted to say that I'm going to miss you guys so much and wanted to thank you all for being here. Oh I'm also surprised that I haven't seen any "damn the man, save the empire" gifs. I'm an old so you will just have to imagine Renee Z singing "Sugar High".
Ooh, can we start up a new round of bookgum soon? I'm mostly just a lurker but I read all the bookgum books and coverage and I credit the videogum community with greatly expanding my literary knowledge. I recently joined a book club in the real world which is ok for drinking wine and reading books about Nazis and cancer....but they're not going to be tackling Blood Meridian anytime soon. It's cold, wet and gloomy over here and I've got some free time on my hands so I could help out with the organizing and whatnot if needed. I can even write up something if you don't mind reading run-on sentences and excessive use of ellipses.
This post along with the WMOAT of The Notebook and a random post of pictures from one of the twilight movie premieres including several pictures of 50 cent are my favorite posts from videogum. So sad.
Oh channel 4! You bring us near constant Big Bang reruns, the tv show where they just film people watching tv and apparently this sex box show that I mercifully missed.
I feel like they were purposely doing weird close ups on his face while he was making weird expressions a lot this season.
It was a pretty bad day y'all. The kid has decided that she doesn't need to sleep during normal person sleeping hours which has been pretty rough. And in my sleep deprived state I dropped my phone in my cup of tea. The really crappy thing is that the kid destroyed my last iPhone about 3 months ago so if this rice bag incubation thing doesn't work that means I've gotta buy another stupidly expensive UK phone. But hopefully today will be better? It's my birthday so maybe it won't suck? The kid was up at 3am and then again at 5am .....so it's not looking super promising.
I'm curious to see how Sherlock is received in the states. It seems like ppl here really didn't like the first 2 episodes, at least commenters and columnists at The Guardian didn't. But I really liked all of the episodes this time around. Especially the 2nd one!
Oh no! Hope everyone is recovered from both the stitches and the scare of having to deal with the stitches. My kid has a new found love of finding glass objects and throwing them on the ground so I feel like this experience may not be too far in our future. I've gotten pretty good at remembering to sweep the room for water glasses and such before she enters but then the other day she just straight up tipped over a floor lamp.
Ugh, it's been a pretty stressful week. We took a long weekend trip last weekend and my kid was 'that baby' on the plane. It was like she was possessed by the devil. The normally very nice British ppl were commenting and giving us dirty looks. We are getting on a much much longer flight next week and now I'm terrified. Also, my former boss just got back to me about the paper that we are working on and he changed everything. Like a months worth of work and he was like "no, F that, we are starting over." Which is super awesome.
I was also going to suggest Dr. Pepper! Not because I've tried it, I hate ham, but I've heard from lots of other ppl that it's really good.
We have had a series of electronic disasters in the past few months that has left me with no access to my music. As I was super homesick today, this has resulted in hours of youtubing random country (don't judge, i said i was homesick!) songs. I was looking for one particular song and you tube pulled up a video that a friend of mine had posted several years ago from a concert that we went to together. I haven't seen this friend in a long time because life and stuff, and it was really nice to find this tangible reminder of him in such a random place. Oh also my kid has finally stopped pooping everywhere (she was sick last week) so that's pretty cool.
I had this happen to me a few months ago with hollandaise sauce. It seriously ruined my day. The only positive was that I was so upset my husband agreed to eat asparagus without the sauce and he deemed it "something he would eat again if it would make me happy"
So no lie, I actually googled "face taco hot buttered rum" at some point last year to find your recipe. I was really excited until I saw how much it made (and how much ice cream it called for!) and was too lazy to try to figure out how to cut the recipe down to a smaller size. Maybe I'll finally make it sometime this winter.
So this dumb argument pissed me off so much. Where I'm from you could not go to the beach without getting tar (from all the oil platforms offshore) all over you. Seriously, when I grew up it was normal for your hotel to provide you with tar cleaners along with your bathroom soap, etc. It's gotten better in the past 10 or so years, but that's beside the point.
So there is this. http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20827842.800-solar-power-could-crash-germanys-grid.html#.UmkVxRYbR5o I don't fully understand, but I think the general idea is that if too many ppl are imputing into the grid it overwhelms the system and can cause blackouts. Apparently they can counteract this by turning off power plants at times of high activity, but that may not be a good idea because there is a lot of energy needed to turn on/off these big plants? That being said, if I ever have the cash I would totally install solar panels.
I sing "the cheat is not dead" all the time too! Other A++ references include lightswitch raves, the s is for sucks, and she looks like she could play linebacker for the raiders.
I'm pretty sure my husband and I still make strong bad references on a weekly basis. We are pretty fun to hang out with.
