Back when giving a progress report on all things Krug, the perennially prolific songwriter talked up the myriad sort of collaborations, projects, and side-projects he’s become known for, although one seemed out of step with the rest: an EP of marimba and drums songs. He told Jessica:
[It’s] an instrument that I’ve always liked, but I’ve never had the patience to bring on the road or even try recording. I don’t think it’s the coolest move for my ‘street cred,’ but it’s a beautiful sounding instrument, what can I say?
The project’s called Moonface, and the collection’s title contains a helpful drum-modifier: Dreamland EP: marimba and shit-drums. It’s available today at an it’s-up-to-you price point at the dedicated site moonface.ca. Donations are optional and the download time is slow presumably on account of a slammed server, so while I can’t yet say if the music’s worth a contribution, judging by your Gummy ballots that EP art might make some of you want to reach into your pockets (gross). Also on the site are selections from Spencer’s dream journal, which will accompany the 12″ vinyl release in printed form, due out 1/26 via Secretly Canadian. Dream baby dream.
