All the cool celebrities and Ellen aren’t the only ones employing the ancient art of reverse psychology on the young people of America to try to get them registered to vote. On last night’s Colbert Report, Stephen showed a public service announcement about young people who are abstaining from voting. The whole thing is funny, but the PSA starts at about 2:40:
The “I’m () and I approve this message” joke never gets old, and the running of the state-by-state voter registration deadlines, though preceded by sarcasm, might be one of the most sincere moments Colbert has ever allowed on his show. Might I suggest a third reverse psychology strategy to get youth into the voting booth? “Talk to your kids about voting. They’ll listen.” It “worked” for the tobacco companies!
