There are a plethora of New York City art-rock bands who are not the Talking Heads, but who work in the same milieu that David Byrne and his cohort pulled from the ether in the ’80s. Landlady are one of those bands; they are not the Talking Heads, but they’ve covered “Mind” from 1979’s Fear Of Music as part of their latest free EP Heat that came out this summer. It may not be reinventing the wheel a bit, but hey, wheels are important. They take you places, even if those places are familiar. And this version of “Mind” shimmers with a quavering vulnerability that’s the perfect accompaniment for slipping into the Fall. Listen.
