MMG’s Chicago rep Rockie Fresh is still readying his next studio effort set to release next year. But The Night I Went To…, the free project he teased last month to ease the wait, is shaping up nicely this week with a couple new loosies that slap. Linking with Hit-Boy for “All I Want,” Fresh lists his prerequisites for the good life over a minimal beat driven by dreamy, reverbed synth patterns and a sparse drum loop. On “Aurora,” Chi-town up-and-comer Mike Daley uses warped sweeps on the keys, space-filling atmospheric flourishes, and simple but punchy drums as Fresh confesses his shortcomings in relationship dealings and hopes he and his girl can “make it to the morning sun.” Fresh is switching up his sound, as he should in order to stay true to his moniker. Listen below.
