“Crazy Crazy,” the new single from Japanese producer Yasutaka Nakata, represents a convergence of two of modern pop’s most fascinating characters, the British punk-pop provocateur Charli XCX and Japanese kawaii model/singer Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. It’s an extremely successful convergence, too, a brightly shining neon music machine with endless moving parts. It reminds me of Max Tundra, Daft Punk, Junior Senior, and other playful, pop-minded producers from around the turn of the millennium. The two singers match the sonic onslaught with maximum energy and pizzazz, and the results are just stunning. Listen to the official “Crazy Crazy” and a remix below.
“Crazy Crazy” is out now on Warner Music Japan.
