Back when Sophie Allison did her Soccer Mommy Stereogum Session around this time last year, she performed a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire.” At the time, she said that we’d “never hear a recording of it, so if you like it, you can just keep watching this video over and over again.” She thankfully re-evaluated, though, and that’s great, because her “I’m On Fire” cover has become a staple of her live shows, a way to really cap off on the emotional catharsis that builds throughout her set.

And it turns out that she did end up recording it, for a new 7″ that’ll come out on Fat Possum in October and also features a re-recorded version of her For Young Hearts opener “Henry.” Her version is a solitary, starry slow-burn, in which Allison’s voice bleeds into everything else surrounding it. “I wanted to make a version of ‘I’m On Fire’ that connected with the sadness of the song,” Allison said in a press release. “I think that doing a more stripped down version allowed me to make something that feels emotionally raw.”
