Shut Up, Dude: This Week’s Best Comments

Not saying this to discount anything that’s being said about him or call into question the charges of abuse, but how does citing his album write-up / PR pitch help anyone? Or differ from instances of rapper’s lyrics being used as evidence by prosecutors in criminal trials? I don’t have a dog in this race but having that be the crux of the evidence in the argument for him being a dangerous and abusive person feels like something everyone needs to take a step back from and reassess.

No memory of this song, but from that video it looks as if a record exec wanted to get a New Order/Cure style band onto the cover of Non-Threatening Boys magazine.

I get that they came up the same way as any other band of their generation, but the lead singer is so handsome that it makes the band seem fake somehow, like they were created for a movie or TV show. But it’s a cute track. I say 6/10.

It was a nice gesture from Rodrigo's camp but let's be honest--they were asking to get sued in some of these places, which just goes to show how medieval much of the US is.

I’m confused. Do yall actually think using the word “y’all” is disrespectful? As a southerner, it’s simply plural for you. “Yall this is scary” sounds to me just like genuine concern here. Your willingness to other it and then cast judgment maybe shows that you harbor some ill will towardspeople from the south (admittedly that’s understandable but be careful not to over-generalize) and if you characterize the vernacular as disrespectful (or moronic in the case of a reply below), that gives you an excuse to criticize.

I’ll admit I don’t know shit about Like Bryan and whether he’s an asshat or not. I don’t feel the need to defend him, but for some reason this thread really rubs me the wrong way.

It’s the most important album of my life. It changed the way I listen to music. It it immensely moving - you can basically feel Adam working through his demons and struggles and ambitions though pure musical catharsis. I could probably write a lengthy, shitty personal essay centered around this album and its place the years following its release, but I’ll spare you.

I've been dealing with anxiety a lot lately (haven't we all) and some of the best advice I've gotten was from my PCP. "Keep looking for awe. Allow it to stay in your life." So I keep looking, in the sky, the plants, music (ofc) and my family. And it really helps. It keeps me going. Katie's music has always had it, it's what makes her words so powerful and her voice so arresting. It's so hard to improve this consistently. I'm excited to hear it.

Thank you to Stereogum dot com for introducing me to Red Eyes via the 5 Best Songs Of The Week. I remember I was in the library at university and had eaten an edible ahead of all-you-can-eat sushi with friends. Listened to Red Eyes three times in a row before realizing the edible was hitting and it was time to go.

Love this album and love this band!
