Serena-Maneesh – “I Just Want To See Your Face” Video (Stereogum Premiere)

Like 2005’s “Sapphire Eyes,” the gorgeous, pleasantly disorienting Serena-Maneesh No 2: Abyss In B Minor standout “I Just Want To See Your Face” brings together the competing impulses in S-M’s arsenal — pristine, bright-lined pop and shadowy, often bleak noise eruptions — in a short burst of optimistic (then grimly overdriven) shoegazer sweetness. It is a love song, and a very S-M love song at that — a light melody wrapped in warped guitars curling in every direction, vocals swirling through thickets of gauzy guitars, sounds mirrored by this video’s visuals which throw the telegenic Norwegian crew in hypercolors, mirror images, quick pans etc. It’s light, bright, shadowy, sweet, and dizzying, fitting both the band, the song, and the strain of love they’re singing about. Watch it, and stick around for the full album stream that follows, and a spate of SXSW dates (see them).
