Icky Leaks

No, not the whole record. Sorry. But if you’ve been squandering company work time like the good little elbo.ws addicts you are, you’ve come across the trio of tracks from Icky Thump that have found safe lodging on servers across the blogosphere. Nothing as the instant-charmer “Icky Thump,” though “300MPH Torrential Outpour Blues” is worthy, a track that lives in the ’70s and hits hard, with a stoner-friendly mellotronic groove which gets smashed by a Led Zep anvil. Those that seek structure in their Stripes will find lots to love in the parenthetical pounding of “You Don’t Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You’re Told).” And then there’s the Corky Robbins cover “Conquest,” better known in Patti Page’s hands, all mariachi horns and fuzzy south of the border guitars. Seem like an odd choice for Jack-o? Don’t forget the “Icky” clip’s Mexican setting. Or that Mr. White mariachis to the beat of his own sister lover drummer.

Keep an ear at Hype Machine and you may hear ‘em before Web Sheriff ruins the fun.
